I've been looking at getting a new bass drum mic for a while now. Is the Subkick really worth the 300 bucks or is there something out there that I missed. Let me know what you guys think a good bass mic would be.

all the subkick is, .. is a 12" subwoofer, wired backwards to work as a mic, since its a sub, it picks up the low end really well. Nothing special.

I like em. I dont have one but the studio engineer that my band works with likes to use them so I use it.

Good idea, but not worth that much in most situations. I mean it picks up frequencies so low, you won't be able to hear them on most systems, and you'll probably want to knock them out when mixing anyway.
Just go for an AKG D 112. Studio standard bass drum mic for many years. In fact, you won't find many songs that haven't used one for a bass drum.
The Yamaha is a great concept, but a bit flawed, especially for that price.

The subkick is supposed to be used in conjunction with a regular kick drum mic, get the Shure PG52 or AKG D112

save 100bucks and go with the shure beta52. the subkick will get frequencies that most speakers wont be able to reproduce so it'd be a waste.
