View Full Version : Bands that get better with age
OK everyone, list off bands which you think have gotten better as their careers have gotten longer, and the reasons you think this.
Right off the bat I've got to say The All-American Rejects. I thought "Swing, Swing" was catchy at best when it came out, and "The Last Song" was just a horrible and boring single when it was released. But Move Along really showed me they have good songwriting, and they can be both catchy and actually good.
Your turn :)

I think AAR's self titled was awesome, their new one doesn't quite live upto it imo.
Alkaline Trio got better with age, but just recently they've gone downhill a little.

Sirens was a pretty good album but I liked Where You Are, Where You Want to Be a lot more.
Chiodos, too. Man, when they were The Chiodos Bros., they sucked, but now they're one of the few scene bands I like. They're a guilty pleasure.

I strongly disagree. I think YFW was MUCH better than Deja. When I listen to pop-punk, I want extremely upbeat stuff with a hint of angst. Jesse had it down pat with YFW. I was thoroughly disappointed with DE. I mean, it's an OK album, it's just not what I wanted at all.

Whole-heartedly agree, but after listening to the demos a few million times, I already think they've gotten better. But since those are the songs that've been scrapped, I suppose I'll reserve my opinion until release.

I can understand were you are coming from.
If I want a much more upbeat album, I will listen to YFW, and it is a much better album.
But in general, I prefer more acoustic styled music, which is why I prefer Deja overall.

This is the history of Primus:
Suck On This!- Primus's first album.
Frizzle Fry- Their second and included a lot of the songs from the first.
Sailing The Seas Of Cheese- Unlike the first two, this album came out of the underground and went to be one of their most successful albums.
Pork Soda- The album that pushed Primus into the "mainstream", but they weren't sell-outs thank God.
Tales From The Punchbowl- Had a Grammy Nominee song, but was one of the weaker albums.
The Brown Album- Didn't succeed very well, though I think it was a great album.
Antipop- Pretty much killed Primus. I loved the album though and think it's very retarded that it didn't do better.
If anything they made a mountain on the charts.

Armor For Sleep's newer album is much better than their first effort. Much more mature and structured and overall more enjoyable to listen to. They still can't write lyrics for ****, though.
Protest The Hero's first album is kinda horrid. The production is aweful and it lacks a lot of polish. Kezia is absolutely fantastic, though. The talent, the range of styles, it's increadible.
Fordirelifesake's newer album is far more consistant and good than their first album.
And Envy's most recent albums (past five years) have been much better than the stuff before that. They went from pure hardcore to using dynamics and better song writing. Fantastic.

I think all bands get better with age . Like they get better/faster at song writing and more experienced in genera. Just depends how they use these things though.
I can only think of one band that got better with age right now and it's NOFX. Got poppier, but still better. Mostly because when they started they sucked ***.

LN has some sweetass tracks on there, and clearly the new bandmates have gotten used to each other better and are able to write better because.
And don't ever say SLR should break up, because I love them and if they did break up they wouldn't be able to make a new super-awesome album whenever it comes out.

I think Sum 41 seemed to get better. By "better" I mean in terms of playing their instruments. Chuck didn't seem as original since people went through a fine-toothed comb and realized that some tracks off Chuck were similar to other well-known songs. I'm interested to see what the band can do now, without Dave.

The only difference between most of you guys and him is that he's a couple years younger. Not a single person in this forum can say that they never spam, because, in reality, the majority of the activity in here takes place in the discussion thread, which is pretty much all spam.
So, basically, everyone just chill out. People are allowed different opinions, and they're allowed to post without having to worry about being attacked. Everyone here is just trying to have fun and discuss music.
That's all that needs to be said on the subject. Any further discussion can take place in the community thread.

Now, back to the discussion of bands that have improved with age.
Wow, you guys act like prissy bitches sometimes. Sure that kid makes some stupid posts but you guys post in the community thread all day making posts just as pointless as that. Chill out. And all because he has a different opinion about which album is better?

Alright, I'm going to close this, as the original topic has more or less been lost.
If anyone really sees the need for this to be reopened, let me know, but for now, I think it's better off closed.
