I'll be posting label review requests here as they come in. Whoever responds first and is a good writer will get the gig, just email your address to sputnikmusic.contact@gmail.com
Hi,
My name's Dot and I work for an independent record label called Chicken Wire Records.
We represent an artist called Richard John Thompson, a singer / songwriter who is releasing his second album "Illogical Life" on July 10th.
I wondered if you would be interested in doing a review of the album. If so, could you supply me with a contact name and address to send the album to.

I'll do it.

Dear Sputnik Music:
Radical Records is currently supporting the Sex Slaves on their US tour
which will send them through the southern states this summer. They are a
hardworking NYC rock and roll band with a punk sound and metal attitude.
They have been on rotation at several radio stations like The Bone 93.3 in
Texas and have recorded theme music for World Wrestling Entertainment. I can
send you a promo copy of their recent release Bite Your Tongue as a review
submission.

Congrats, Hep Kat - no pressure on you or anything, since this is the first label review exchange and everything... :p
Sex Slaves... have recorded theme music for World Wrestling Entertainment
I was wondering why that name looked familiar, haha (in a non-creepy way).

This is really, really great for sputnik. And it's contributers. I won't be doing one yet. I'm the sort of writer that needs to know genre and stuff. I'd be lost on new punk or metal. But straight ahead rock or alternative I could tackle. Folk, bluegrass, and country, too.
Until then I'll just keep reviewing the old stuff. :chug:

What if the reviewer doesn't like it? Surely they won't want negative reviews.
I'd do it, but I'm a bit busy lately.

Yeah, I was wondering if it's one of those gigs where a critical review results in no more albums.
Sepstrup
06-20-2006, 01:43 PM
Once you implement the reviewing ranks, you could just have your staff reviewers decide whether they want to do this on a regular basis, and send the albums to them. If there aren't enough you can go to the next class, and so on, so the most qualified person gets it, rather than the first person to look in this thread. (I'm not implying any of you aren't qualified, just an idea for the future)

Ideally, every album is wonderful in its own way. But there are some plain bad albums out there, and if you're dealing with independents, you gonna come across a whole lot of meh. Labels know this, and I think they kinda hope that someone will play softball. But I can guarantee the world won't end if you give an indepedent release a bad review, at least as long as it's well-written. Been there. Some will even keep sending you stuff either way.
Besides, no point in lying about how you feel. And if Sputnik receives these review requests unsolicited, then there will likely be more where that came from.

I'm just happy this character who I'm going to be reviewing sounds good...

Hey, I'd be happy to romanticize my reviews in return for free CDs. =D

Eh, free CDs are overrated. Although it's an undeniably cool feeling getting a nice little package in the post with music in it. Warms me heart. :)
Edit: Actually, the best thing about free CDs is selling them to the used music store and buying something you really want. :o

No, send your actual adress to him through email, so you can get sent copies of advance albums if mx so chooses you.
I might do this in the near future, but reviews come so out of the blue for me, I oh-so-rarely can do any new release reviews.
Phaedra
06-21-2006, 12:15 AM
I like how I suggested doing this, and it actually got implemented. Wouldn't happen on many sites.
And I don't think I'll sign up or anything, I only do so many reviews, and I'd prefer to have the freedom to review sporadically.

oops :upset:
Not sure about international. But if it's a UK band, I will assign to a UK reviewer, same with Continental Europe.
My name is Jennifer and I work for Respect Management. We are about to drop a hot new reggae artist who needs to be reviewed. Please send me your address, the name of the person in charge of the reviews, your telephone number, and whether or not you accept electronic press kits. Thank you very much. I look forward to hearing from you. Have a wonderful day!

Wow, four days of this thread up and you've already posted about 6 or so requests for reviews from record labels... It's an intresting thing, this music industry, I mean, of all the reviewed albums written because of the requests, the chance of any of the artists making it 'big' is miniscule yet the number of requests for reviews seem to be pretty large. So much for the sacred recording contracts eh? (Even if they are for the most part indie labels)
