Since you seem to be something of the local T-40 expert, I was wondering what your opinion on this

was, since i remember hearing you say on several occasions that almost all T-40's came in natural finish, with a small percentage in black
Most people buy them in natural because they are made from better woods.
The painted ones arnt, but they are still great basses and I honestly cant tell the difference between the two.

No, you've got that very wrong. They just used plainer grain wood for the painted ones. The naturals aren't any better sounding.:thumb:

They actually used poplar for a lot of the painted ones...
And dude... are those covers gold? That's kinda nifty.

First off, I never heard of Peavey making a T-40 out of anything other than Ash, no matter what color it was.
As for the threadstarters question, I'd go for that bass if it is the color you want. If not, wait a bit, you can sometimes get them for less, although that is the average price for a T-40 now.
