Also to note, you can't go wrong with Fodera and Alembic.

Fretless Anthony Jackson Contrabasses are amazing. Also look into Hotwire-Kai Eckhardt turned me onto them.

Well why not? Those companies undoubtedly make amazing instruments.

I'd recommend picking up the original Bass of Doom. Great tone. A little bit of wear though from a few mods.

do you feel the average poster has $8000+ to throw away on a bass? how about instead of simply spewing out big names to make yourself look like you know what your talking about, try to be helpful.

Of course I don't expect him to have $8000+, but I'd rather take the oppertunity to discuss brands other than the bog standard (though solid and undoubtedly useful to beginners) ones he'll most likely be interested in (things like Brice, Peavey, Aria, Dean etc etc).

and EADG-I'd rather buy Stanley Clarke's orginal Brown Bass from Victor Wooten.

check out some second hand Carvin fretless basses, they're really good and fairly cheap.

I got my status graphite fretless 6 string for £400 second hand off www.bassworld.co.uk

well you sound unsure, so i would suggest play as many fretless as you can, simply to determine whether you like the sound over a fretted, then if you do like the fretless and youre determined to get a six string, get one from a company such as rondo music or schecter.

why not get a 5 string fretless and string it with a 6 string set, do you realllllly want to be hearing a low B on a fretless? think about it

is there any brands with large amount of space in between the strings i cant do the 5 to 6 string thing because it would be a tight squeeze and yes i played a fretless and its was surprising ly easy to someone with a fair amount of experience (like me)
