It looks abit shady for being a custom bass, but hey! I guess it sounds killer and is well built after all! I'm sure it beats the crap out of my OLP MM2 ;)

Its my product design end piece, in the 2nd pic all those things on the table behind are other peoples products - lamps mostly, so i thought i would be original and make a twin neck bass :smoke: its not that much heavier than my fiver so im not worried about snapping my back or anything, should have some soundclips up soon probably if i can use my music departments recording equip.

Tbh, I think it looks absolutly hideous! The body looks a little deformed (far too thin at the bottom and middle) and the neck pockets kinda look a little...open. Also, its probably going to be very hard to play the fretless neck above 15th fret position.
But having said that, I could proabably do much worse in an attempt, so, well done, Im sure itll sound great :thumb:

i probably wont be playing the fretless neck much higher than the 12th fret except for tapping, as its strung B,E,A,D. i know the routing wasnt perfect :( , i had to do it all freehand without templates, so the MMTW pocket is a bit wavy and the neck pockets have gaps along the sides, im not too bothered tho in general, ive learnt a lot from it and know loads of better ways to make it, so my next project for the summer should be a bit better than this attempt.
It reminds me a bit of the scene in Alien Reserection where Ripley goes into the Genetic lab and sees all the ****ed up clones of herself.
That is one ugly bass.
Well if it serves to aid you further down the line in your production then it has served its purpose

i really dont like it, dont take it personally though i just really dont like any double necks
but hey hope you like it ;)
i think its awesome. Its a bit goofy, and i cant imagine myself playing a doubleneck, but if i made one id love it to death. Simply because you made that darn thing makes it look cool.

If you had made it more smooth...maybe....
Pretty ugly, but damn cool.

I dunno what to say. It's incredibly ugly and I would never have paid money for that.
But it's a double neck so it's still badass

looks good mate, and teh fcat that its welsh is possibly its biggest plus.

I don't get what's up with the pickup config though, I would have rather had the humbucker on the fretted side and the jazz pups on the fretless side.
Also, what fingerboards are you using?

I like it, I would love to make a bass by myself, really well done.

I like it, although I believe the bottom horn should be castrated and it should have been made so each neck was in line with the other

that looks really cool. i think it would be cool to have a double-necked bass.
can't wait to hear it.

Damn thats ugly...but, I hope you have fun with it.
If you'd modelled it on a Wal double neck it would be ace!

Phalanx - Its padauk necks, rosewod fretboards, quilted maple front, swamp ash back.
Team Racket & Shuffle It All - Damn right its Welsh  that gives it street cred staright away even tho it is fugly :smash: I should of put all the writing 'yn gymraeg' for cool factor, i might on the next one.
The101er - I know the bottom horn is hideous, i slipped on the bandsaw and eeeeek i fooked it up and thats the best i could get it to look like. Also i wanted as small a body as i could get so i went for a thin middle and end so i can reach over it to play the fretted neck, and so it dont weight loads.
And to Chris - I knew you would hate it :) lol :chug:
I'm sending it to music shop to get intonated and truss rod sorted and the nut finalised and everything tommorow i cant be bothered doing it myself. should have some soundclips up soonish.
Anyone know where i can get Warwick Wax from in the UK preferably online?
Chris K

it's not that I hate it, it's body style certainly isn't for me though, but I appreciate that it's what you were after-after all, you did design it! :thumb:
However, I cannot deny that from the front, it looks well made, certainly a cut above a certain lump or butchered Zebrawood I've seen before...
And as for Warwick Wax, trying ringing the Bass Center or the Bass Gallery, or your nearest branch of GuitarGuitar, they'll send it to you by post. Are you needing it to wax the neck?

i like the shape, as you said i did design it for me, not to sell on to someone on evilbay or anything, and the lower horn will grow on me i hope, and it balances suprisingly well, no neck dive at all :thumb:
I liked that zebrawood bass, who made it again?, it looked funky lol.
Ive oiled the body with tru-oil so want to build up some wax on it to make it gleam, and the music shop by me (12miles away!) doesnt stock any

Irishslapop. It was indeed "funky".
Now, if the wax was for the neck, Warick state that you don't need it. The neck is oiled by contact with your hand and as such, does not need Wax application. However, the rest is fine to wax, as you know.

The neck is padauk so its naturaly oily, it feels lovely to play on, cant wait to slap some thomastick flatwounds on the fretless neck tommorow and hear the mmwwaaaaaaaaaaa
I'll give bass center/bass gallery a buzz sometime this week and try and get me some, else its googling/evilbaying

Sounds good, I don't think I've played a Padauk neck before, although the old Ibanez SR's made of Paduak (the ones that Gerald Veasley played in '94 when he was with the Zawinul Syndicate) are sound awesome.
As for oiled necks though, I have issues with people oiling their wood necks. I once played a second hand thumb which had had the neck copiously waxed. it was slippy, almost sticky and left your hand with a pronounced shine and feeling very slippy. the fact it was the sexond Thumb I had played did little to help my opinion of those beuatiful instruments at the time, though I could appreciate the problem was due to a boob with too much wax.

well im going to leave the necks alone, to me they are fine, and it sounds from your desciption that a oiled neck is pretty cack anyways :smash: i might eventually epoxy the fretboards but im not sure if i need/want to.

the only thing i don't like about it is the join between the two and the top (never dug that finish ever)

Epoxied boards are awesome, when I get a new fretless Jazz I'll certainly get the board epoxied.

Alothough its not really my taste, it could be someone elses. And this was a terrible time to put this on with Jp's Jazz, and the Black Widow being posted only a few days ago.

Despite the fact that it is radically different in both design and concept to both of those instruments...

I don't like it much but still congrats on building it if you build another bass you are only going to improve. Just look at Jayismefesto (or whatever his name is) is first bass is a bit dodgy and his last couple are great.
You should of bookmatched then top though.

06-15-2006, 07:56 AM
the controls are vol vol tone for the jazzes, and vol (push pull single/dual), tone for the mm. with a 3way switch a)fretted, b)both c)fretless
i would of bookmatched it, but that was the only quilted maple big enough for my bass the luthier had, and coz it was slightly warped i got it for third the price.

I made a completely uninhabitable bird house in shop class, so in light of that I really think that this turned out nicely. The quilting is beautiful.

I love it. The Quilting is amazing,so is the shape.
My only real problem with is is the seam down the middle, but thats a damn good final product for your first one.

If only it didn't look like you could pull it apart at the necks and in the middle.

It annoys me that the access to the upper frets is hindered by that bottom horn.

Like I probably mentioned in your thread in Lutherie, it's ****ing hideous, but if you like it, that's all that matters.
