Im writing a song which I want to be something that would be danceable to, so far I have this drum pattern:

BD|o-------o-o-----|
SD|----o-------o---|
CH|x---x---x---x---|
OH|--x---x---x---x-|

And the chord progression C#, G#, Fm, D#

Any ideas? Thanks for your help

bass drum
snare drum
closed hat
open hat

however, i dunno, i guess i could go get my bass and have a fiddle round

edit:
use arepeggios of each chord

c# g# Fm d#
|-------5-|----------|----------|-------7--
|---3-6---|-------5--|----------|---5-8----
|-4-------|---3-6----|-----2-5--|-6--------
|---------|-4--------|-1-4------|----------

in my opinion, it should have a better flow if you want people to dance to it. Arpeggios are a great idea, but you should invert them so the voice leading is a little better.

maybe play with the bass drum and snare to create a really solid groove. higher notes on the snare.. maybe right at the end of the drum phrase play a sliding diad and start the riff again?

Try listening to some Arctic Monkeys for some ideas. That's a pretty basic drum beat, so writing something in 4/4 should be pretty easy. As for me, i'm all improv, and suck at writing, so i do not offer much help. But try playing around with thirds and fifths in G major.

Listen to some Gang of Four, they had some nice dancy lines.

Also, any reggae or ska.

i find just doubeling up the beet and doing something with 5ths or octaves usualy works in dancey bits. slaping allso, bita disco funk style stuff.
