View Full Version : What's the hardest music that you listen to?
Of course this is Pop-Punk, but I know a lot of people in here listen to some HARD music. You know, the kind of stuff that mkaes you go *ss wild in the pit, and makes you want to break sh*t when your at home.
So what is it that drives you to that edge?
I say that Raised Fist is easily one of the hardest bands I listen to! :thumb:

I listen to hardcore and emo, and grindy stuff like combatwoundedveteren and pg.99, so yeah...everything I listen to minus pop-punk is hard.

I don't listen to too much heavy stuff, but Pig Destroyer and The Dillinger Escape Plan are probably my heaviest.
I don't know, but I'm just gonna go with:
Through the Eyes of the Dead
The Black Dahlia Murder
Cradle of Filth>from what I've heard
Hardest music out of what I listen, is probably above.
Bad Blood
06-13-2006, 01:10 PM
If I ever do, which isn't that often, I have to be in the mood.
The Locust
Anapparatus
Pink Handgrenade
Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower.
I do like a bit of hardcore... Sick Of It All and Refused for example. Only every now and then.
<3 Propagandhi <3
Most metal is pretty cack tbh. I like Minor Threat and Black Flag... they ain't that hard, more just "shouty shouty" or whatever.

Hmm, I've not really been listening to much heavy stuff recently. Probably Dillinger Escape Plan are the only 'heavy' band I really listen to at the moment. And possibly Shadows Fall if I'm in the right mood.

Don't get me wrong, I love heavy music. I'm all about breakdowns and t3h mad riffz. I listened to Misery Signals all day today. I'm listening to Folly right now.
When you get to the point of Nile and other Death metal bands or whatever, when bands are just trying to tune as low as possible and then tremelo notes as fast as they can with maybe a keyboard following the root note, it's just very boring. Other extremely heavy bands like Devour lose all sense of individuality in their songs since all you every hear is sub-sonic notes (with a pinch harmonic hear and there) with the deepest, most lifeless and boring scream ever.
Things that make a song memorable: Breakdowns or melodies (this doesn't mean poppy singing, this can mean memorable lead riffs, etc.). The heavier music gets, the less breakdowns you have (death metal doesn't have any at all! LAME!!!) and the lest melody you have, substituted for very low, inaudible dribble. Thus, songs are less memorable and boring.
And I base these claims on absolutely nothing. I'm just putting off studying for my math final.

I think that the death metal stuff that uses very low frequency and production is boring, but when they put a little bit of shred and even keyboards, I think that adds to the energy.

Nile is awesome, your music is not. :p
But really, in one sense you could see a lot of Death Metal songs as one continuous breakdown. Basically though...you suck. :-*

I think choruses are pretty overused these days. Verses too.
If you don't think breakdowns are memorable, then you aren't listening to the right breakdowns :p
Or you're listening to the music wrong or something.
I listen to a fair bit of hardcore. More often I listen to metal-with-breakdowns or metalcore or something. Or hardcore influenced music. Pure hardcore (old school like minor threat) is very boring.

You don't seem to understand what breakdowns are.
There's a difference between chugging (heavy, palm muted riffs) and a breakdown.
It's kinda like the difference between a lead riff and a solo.

I think every ones perception of *hard* music is different, for instance Good Charlotte was mentioned earlier on. When you consider their riffs, I suppose they could be considered hard rock, but say that to the average metal head and they'll try raping you.
Download,
Soilwork - Distance (Melodic Metal)
Children if Bodom - In Your Face (Speed Metal)
Behemoth - Slaves Shall Sever (Death Metal)
Enslaved - The Dead Stare (Black Metal)
Should give you a rough idea of what hard music is considered to be in the *hardcore* world.
