Would burying my Wuhan 18'' China help add some extra patina and get a darker sound? Lets say I burried it in my backyard for a week, its been raining constantly.. so that should help with the aging? My hearings going quickly from its high pitched CRANG so help me out?

Thanks for the tip, now could someone help me out here, I read somewhere that Elvin Jones did this to get a more traditional sound out of his cymbals.

You should do it just for the funny of it to see if it works. Since it's a Wuhan, you'd only be out like 30 bucks if it ruined it.

do it..It will make the cymbal a little darker

I would imagine that all the water would add rust.

Which would eventually cause the cymbal to decay
and eventually break..

But I'm no scientist so as far as I know it'll turn it
into a pumpkin.

A little known fact that cymbals are actually pumpkin seeds. When planted, cymbals sprout into a pumpkin tree, which you can eventually harvest more pumpkin seeds or cymbals from.

I have read a discussion on this topic before. Apparently, it makes no difference at all.

Everyone on this forum recommends Wuhan. But then they say their great if you bury them for a year, wear ear protection, and never hit it just have it for looks. I think Wuhans sound crappy.

Raining constantly?

That blows.

And it's probably not good for your cymbals.

Well...that's a matter of taste...I love wuhan chinas, and I would centainly not bury them...actually I wouldn't bury any cymbal. And any drummer should use ear protection if they want to be able to hear for the rest of their lifes.

After one thread about burying Wuhans, "everyone" says you should bury them?

Hahaha oh my oh my..

Ok first off, threadstarter. You need to be wearing ear plugs. And if you don't like the cymbal, then don't play it. But seriouslly.. ear plugs..

As to burying cymbals, yes it makes a difference... but not at a week at a time! Burying a cymbal for a week will make it dirty. And nothing more. It might rust some from the moisture, being that wuhan are very cheap.

Cymbals have to be buried for years, it's a very slow chemical process. It makes a very noticable difference in higherquality metals over the longer periods of time. The process can be sped up by adding lime to the soil.
I have a ride in the backyard, it's been there bout 2 years now. I might dig it up in a few months.

Y'know.

I don't see how you [you in general, not one specific person] can buy a new cymbal and just. Bury it. Put it in your yard under some dirt.

I don't know about anybody else, maybe I'm just weird or something, but usually you don't bury things you intend to keep or use.

And buying a cymbal, then waiting a couple of years to play it seems...silly.

^You've never seen Josiah's cymbal collection, have you? He has enough of them that he can do something like that.

Its about what they want and its up to them if they want to do it even if they dont have a massive collection. I have 13 cymbals on my kit and ive had a ride buried in my backyard since I moved to NC which has been 4 years.

They go on archeological digs to find ancient Roman shields, they then paint the Zildjian logo on them and job done. One time Zildjian were having a rough year and they resorted to thieving from a museum, but dont tell the cymbal police that.

yes but they used to be buried, not sure if they are anymore. They might just be chemically treated

It wont work. Try using car exhaust or the exhaust from a clothes dryer.

So what does burying a cymbal actually do to it?
