View Full Version : A second poll
Since this was brought up after the first poll was made, vote on what's next. I think the new suggestion is important enough to merit this.

The multiple genre thing would be neat, but customizable lists still gets my vote.

I've never been too pushed on customisable lists, but I love the idea of multiple genres.

Definitely multiple genres, it would help out a lot with bands like Opeth, Frank Zappa, David Grubbs etc. If people want to make lists so badly, then just make up a list and post it as a journal.

STFU, Tom!!!!!
Lists would be better. Having multiple genres for bands would get confusing, methinks.

Meh, I'd rather you focus on fixing the bugs:
- the problems with searching bands with symbols in their name
- make it so that coding does not appear on the main page for the featured review blurb, it is really ugly seeing Artist on the main page.
- fix the buggy music timelines
- put in a "was this muse well written?" thing at the bottom of muses, they deserve credit just like reviews
- this (http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?p=12562411#post12562411)
- Announce the sputnik newsletter to the masses of mx (do this closer to the send out date and this can be done by any of the spud mods)
It isn't the attractive choice, but buggy websites are soooooo annoying. Websites that bomb you with features and options are annoying too. So if I have to choose out of the two, I'd for the multiple genres for bands. Some bands traverse over so many genres that limiting them to 1 is quite annoying.

yeah, but multiple genres will make the "Underoath is/isnt mainstream rock" debate, as well as many others, increase 10 fold

 Good one. :thumb:
From the discussion that is going on right now regarding some bands, I think it would be interesting to see multiple genres appear. Examples:
Underoath: Have been Metalcoreish/Hardcoreish, went Pop-Punk/Pop-core, on the way to Post-HC in a way with their new album
Thrice: Progression from Melodic Hardcore to Post-Hardcore
It could very well end the genre discussions.
I have to admit though, that Liberi has a point with a few of the things he listed (though it seems that Liberi did not notice tht the timeline-thingy IS debugged and works like a charm, as well as the coding for the main page :p). I think the main thing he has is the search-problem.
But out of these two things (just to make the mod's life easier) multiple genres

If mult. genres wins (and it appears it will :'[) I think that on the band page an actual sentence should be on top where the genre goes saying something like Damrod said on page 2 (ex. "hrice: Progression from Melodic Hardcore to Post-Hardcore).

Are you sure the coding for the main page, when my Joni Mitchell review was featured there were big [L]'s all over it. And it was only featured about a day or two ago.

Def multiple genres. It will clear up like 90% of the arguments on this site, plus more "professional" sites like allmusic.com often have bands cross-listed in terms of genre.
and we should strive to be just like allmusic.com

Multi genres. I don't really know why though.

Well, the last review that was featured had no tags displayed on the main page, and it had the ... thing in the first line
