Is the PDP set line arranged:
LXE
LX
MX
MXR
CX
FXR
FS
EZ?

If so, how do MXs compare with LXs and LXEs? I believe Senseless Apprentice has an LX.

They're the same shells, just different finishes.

So LXE finishes would be nicer than MX finishes? Is that all?

And how 'bout CXs?

They're not all the same shells, FS and FXR are birch, and I'm not sure what the EZ series is.

And the LXE finishes wouldn't necessarily be nicer, just different.

LXE - lacquered finishes with different veneers

LX - lacquered finishes

MX - Matte finishes

CX - wrapped finishes.

At least I think that's right.

If you go to the PDP website they list the features of all of their kits on there.

DONT GET EZ! It's sub-entry.

I wasn't planning on it. I'm focused mainly on LX, CX, and MX.

MX.
CX.
LX.

At the moment. Anyone want to change my mind?

CombatWombat3

I'm with you on that one, the LXE's are really expensive, I wouldn't pay that much more for a veneer.

The LX and MX will have a little more resonance than the CX, b/c the CX is wrapped.

Yeah, the wrap won't affect the sound that much, it really won't make that much of a difference. But the sets really are pretty much the same, just the finishes are different. So it's really up to you. I kinda like the white onyx, personally. Or the red sparkle.

Yea my CX sounds really good. Only paid 650$, sounds like a 1200 dollar kit. It really sings.

Sunshine

Aww.

The EZ isn't THAT bad of a set.

But then, if you're above the initial learning stages, then maybe it's not the greatest.

I paid $650 for my CX, it's all Maple and it sounds excellent. I really like my finish, too.

I used to have an LX, also tried a CX (quite a lot, i tried it out before buying my LX), and i did find the LX sounding better? Not sure if this was a tuning issue, or possibly because this was about 4 years ago (I sold my LX earlier this year).

CX's are only in wraps? I would save up so i wouldnt' have to get a wrap instead. My next kit is most likely a pdp.

Yeah, CXs are only in wraps, but MXs are lacquered and still the same price.

I think I want to go with either an MX or a CX. The LXs I would want would be the Kurillian, Natural, or Regal Royal fades, which are all between 1300 and 1900 I believe. What I'm caught between is for CX the white onyx (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Pacific-Drums-by-DW-CX-Fusion-Kit-with-8.155-Hardware?sku=445131) and for MX Tobacco Fade, Sea Blue Satin, and Emerald Fade satin (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Pacific-Drums-by-DW-MX-Fusion-5Piece-Drum-Kit-with-8.155-Hardware?sku=445143). Opinions, anybody?

If you like the colors on the CX, go for it. Personally, I'd go with the MX because it's the same price (on massmusic, at least, your link doesn't work) and it's a lacquer. I just prefer a lacquer finish, if you like one of the colors on the wrap, get it.

Don't forget that wraps are a little more durable than lacquers, but it's a personal opinion on which one you want on your kit.

What do you mean by more durable? Well I know what you mean, but are lacquers more likely to get damaged, or are wraps just better quality?

MX Sea Blue ftw atm.

If you're giging and playing shows your drums are likely to encounter nicks and bumps, here wraps old up a little better. I myself prefer lacquers, and wouldn't get a wrap for that fact, but it's just FYI.

Thanks dude. I too prefer lacquers over wraps. When my band gigs, we tend to use either my bassist's set or mine. I've never had something damaged at a gig, mainly because I'm super careful about my set.

I think I'm definitely going with the Sea Blue.

Drum Monkey
06-12-2006, 05:10 PM
Same here, no damages at gigs, too obsessive compulsive for that to happen! You never know though... *Crosses fingers*

A lacquer is my preference :thumb:

It's great, I'm very happy with it :D I have two more (16" + 18") toms to add to it before the drums are complete, but I'm even thinking of adding another tom to the left of my hats, à la Peart.

That's intense to the max. Nice buy.

What's the cymbal set up?
14" AAXCelerator hats
18" AAXplosion crash (19mm crack, replacing later on)
10" AA splash
18" AA Metal-X crash (replacing)
20" B8 ride (replacing)
15" AAXtreme chinese

I also plan to add a third crash (16"), a second splash (8"), and maybe a fourth crash (20"). There's so much I'll be adding to the kit in the next few months, I'll keep everyone updated!

Going to look for some 21" rides like the Raw Bell Dry Rides and the Sweet Ride but also some 22" rides, pretty much most of what's in the store.

Nah, I would wait for the double pedal, my teacher, who I find amazingon drums has been learning double pedal for over a year now and still is only just getting to grips with it, and he has been playing for 30-40 years. I say cymbals are more important TBH, up to you though.....obviously!

I can get away with the cymbals I have now though, without the need of adding a few voices right away. Adding a double pedal opens so many more doors and allows me to start learning so much more. Also, this way I get the bigger purchase out of the way, but that's not my main concern.

I like the cx. It's a maple and is easy enough to refinish
