swing isn't the style wich you should start with!!!
I think that pop is the one wich you can start playing drums and just then go for something harder!

sultans of swing by dire straits is a good song for begginers. it is more guitar oriented but it has good drums too. it was the 1st song i learnt to play.:p

Sorry but i'll give you a bit of advice:
Learn to spell and use correct grammar and listen to more genres.
I couldn't understand half of that.
Swing is a genre, i suppose you wouldn't know that seeing as all the bands you listed there were in the rock/ metal genre.

i assume swing is a type of genre which resembles jazz but i might be wrong. but if it resembles jazz it may be a little difficult for begginers.
i just dont know wat bands play swing music. i asked you to name some songs or bands with swing music. so u misunderstood me. no biggie.
thank you

Its not really poppish, but why not go for Back in Black by AC/DC? Or anything by them. Or try out the White Stripes. I personally hate their music, but if you want an easy beat go for it
Ethan.

I would have said any AC DC song, but they aren't really pop...

swing isn't always a genre. It's the way you play your notes. In swing, two eighth notes are played as a triplet expect without the middle note.
Without swing:1 and
With swing:1 [trip] let
brackets mean you don't say it.
Sunshine
06-13-2006, 12:17 AM
Ah.
Except without the middle note.
Mmk.
But the question is...was he talking about that, or was he talking about the genre?
Sabian4015

I dunno, but i was just stating that swing isn't always a genre. Swing(playing style, not genre) is used in pretty much everything jazz. There's that little riff on the ride, then snare notes added in on accents. Ahh I like jazz =).

The 'pedia also talks about the "swung note" that you just described.
But some people were asking for swing artists, so...swing jazz.
Thank the internet for wikipedia.

Spelling and grammar for gods sake.
Whats a "wat" or a "biggie"

Thank you internet. Wikipedia > God
God may some day smite you using wikipedia somehow.
And in "biggie"'s defense, it's not a real word so it has no real spelling, but that IS the acceptable spelling for this...term. Which is the lazy man's way of saying "big deal."
I mean, I know you knew that and such, but. Well. I'm pretty sure he wasn't going to defend himself clearly, so I took the liberty of doing so myself.

There are a lot of easy songs out there to get you started. Most are either classic rock, indie or pop:
Paranoid - Black Sabath
A Kind of Magic - Queen
Highway to Hell - AC/DC
Sweet child o' Mine - Guns & Roses
Those are just a few "biggies" that spring to mind...

The way I learned to play was some gay video. But anyway, after that I took the basics that I had learned and just changed stuff up. Start with a basic 4/4 beat that's at a comfortable speed and just play. Once you've got it down, throw something into the mix. Like a fill. Fills are the spice of drumming. Don't just use the snare (which works fine), but try to add a couple hits on a tom. Or hit a couple toms. Or a cymbal. Or toms and a cymbal. Or everything you can think of at once. But make sure it fits the beat. Nothing is more annoying than an offbeat drummer. Counting out loud helps this very much. Hmm... That's good for a start. If you've got this sort of thing down already and I've written this all in vain then I hope some other beginner is reading. Playing along to music does really help, but I don't think it really helps your drumming creativity that much.

^^^I believe that jazz is the spice of drumming. Fills are like putting a dash of jazz into any song.
Cause jazz is pretty much in a constant state of fill.

Jazz drummers pwn. Try playing along to some jazz, old or new. That'll frustrate you in a heartbeat.

try transcribing solos, that'll get your blood flowing.
I had to do that last semester... some Kenny Washington solos, to boot.
I did it, but it was frustratingly fast as hell... like 180 bpm.

It will literally take you about 15 seconds to learn any AC/DC song. and it makes you feel cool, because you know a song by the band that has a t shirt in every boutique all the way down to every wal mart.
