So I recently borrowed my friends FireWire audio capture device, and since have done a little screwing around with it. Last night our band recorded some jams, and today I recorded a solo.
Unfortunately the equiptment is a little sketchy. The audio capture has only two channels, so I just used my 16 channel mixer and sent everything in through two channels, left and right. Which, as you know, means all the mixing has to be done before we record. :( Also, the interface is a little sketch, so I lost the whole second half of my solo to corruption. :(

Sweet, im getting a firebox to do recording similar to what it sounds like your band is doing, except id pley everything cuz i dont have a band haha.
pretty cool solo.
The first song is pretty good, kinda interesting with the clean(maybe acoustic i can never tell) and the distorted guitar.
The second song in the order you posted is pretty cool too, i like how you guys' music comes together, it sounds like u guys have a lotta fun.
nice job.

im not a big fan of your solo, not what i like to hear. But the quality can be amazing. Lower the toms, and it sounds like you have the toms mic'd up so you should have turned down the toms. And the bass too, it would be nice if you could have put a compressor on the bass. When recording like this you should worry more about mic placement and mic levels for gettting the right sound which was very possible.
edit-i liked the last half of your solo

Poppin, like I said earlier, I had to do all of the mixing beforehand, so a lot of it was guesswork. I dunno about a compressor on the bass either, since I can't do any post-recording mixing really.
Chester, go for a FirePod if you can. 8 channels is definitely way better than 2.

Yea, i really want to, but i cant, its really an interesting situation. My dad is buying it for me for getting into national honors society (WOOO) and he was like 500 dollar budget, and i dont have money to add with it, and i need to get drum mics as well so i went with a pair of JM27s for overheads for now, yea itl sound bad, but il live. Ive already got the box on order anyways, i got it before and it wouldnt install so i sent it back for another one, because it seemed like it might have been the firebox itself, hopefully thats all it was.
thanks anyways

yeah i know what your saying, but to get a good sound like that, i was just trying to say, trial and error, until you get a good sound, keep moving the mic around. Great playing though.
