Formed from the ashes of Emperor, Zyklon released their debut World ov Worms in 2001 to worldwide critical acclaim. The Norwegian band, featuring guitarist Destructhor and bassist/vocalist Secthdamon (also of Myrkskog), with drummer Trym and guitarist Samoth, participated on the successful "Extreme Music for Extreme People" US tour featuring Morbid Angel, Deicide, Soilent Green and Exhumed. In early 2002, the band began work on their second album, Aeon. Since its late 2003 release, the album has received overwhelming support from Terrorizer, Metal Maniacs, Brave Words Bloody Knuckles, Kerrang, Unrestrained and countless others.

Zyklon's debut album was named "World Ov Worms". At first, despite the considerable amount of talent that each band member possessed, this album was not much different from their past (especially the band that Destructhor was in before joining Samoth and Trym, Myrkskog. The album was made up of extremely fast riffing and blastbeats aided by the vocals of Daemon and the lyrics of drummer Faust, ex-drummer of black metal band Emperor. However, after this release, Zyklon changed. Secthdamon was brought to replace Cosmocrator and Daemon, even though Secthdamon had been drumming for Myrskskog, still revealed immense skill as a fast, thrashy player on bass with creative vocal abilities. At this point the official line-up was Samoth, Trym Torson, Destructhor and Secthdamon.

With this line-up the album "Aeon" was produced, which is regarded as one of the most influential and important albums in death metal. Tracks like "Core Solution", "Psyklon Aeon" and "The Prophetic Method" immediately gravitated lots of attention from both media and fans. Zyklon were offering a purer form of death metal that had only been voyaged into by few bands, notably legendary band Death on the album The Sound Of Perseverence. "Aeon" showed just how creative Zyklon could get, tracks like "Core Solution" were the ultimate roots for death metal, and showed that Zyklon were persistent and focused on what they wanted to achieve, a heavier, more purer and more approachable form of death metal.

The bands third effort, "Disintegrate" was released on the 15th of May 2006 to great critical acclaim. Running up at 45:06, "Disintegrate" is Zyklons longest album, and was recorded in November-December 2005 at the Akkerhaugen Lydstudio, Norway. While "Disintegrate" is considered to be not only their best work but also a thoroughly brutal and extreme album, it is very similar to "Aeon" leading some critics to wonder where Zyklon will progress to on their fourth album.

Any fans of this band? I recommend them for any fans of Emperor.

They rule. Concrete Corner compilation CD has a song from their new CD on it this month. I haven't heard it yet though.

These guys have grown on me so much. I'm hooked on them now and wouldn't be afraid to say they're the best death metal band I've heard in ages. I used to hate Aeon but I adore it now. They're really consistent too, which is a rare commodity these days.

Trym is just....aaaaaah. Every member is awesome.

I like them. World Ov Worms is a really good album. Aeon was pretty good as well. I haven't heard their newest album yet. I'll check it out eventually.

edit: here's a link to their other video.

They're okay. Every song they've ever written sounds essentialy the same, but Psyklon Aeon is a good song.

I can stand that though, the occasional electronic bit helps keep it from becoming tedious. I wish they did more parts like the industrial metal part in Zycloned... that's one of my favourite riffs of all time right there.

There's heaps of difference between albums though. Disintegrate is especially different, it's back to basics in a good way.

Only album I've heard is World Ov Worms but it's killer.
