Really the question we should be asking is why is it that only people like LittlePound will ever agree with what he says?
Why is it that all the intelligent people on this forum, no matter what their political views or educational focus (science, history, whatever) are, have never agreed with him on any of the fundamental topics he talks about?
Why is it that his threads have been complete failures for him?
Why?

Religion.
But yeah, like I said before, he's a nice guy....it's just his religious standpoints that irk me. I agree with a lot of what he says outside of religion.

I agree with him on that, but not to the extreme things he's said in the past about the Palestinian people.
But yeah, like I said before, he's a nice guy....it's just his religious standpoints that irk me.
I like him until he starts arguing and not discussing.
His threads are almost invariably terrible.
Lately I've been feeling very odd about his posts as well. They used to rile me up so much that I would go for e-miles refuting them. But lately I've been getting the detached sense that, in the real world, nothing he ever hypothesizes, hopes for, or holds opinions about is ever true, or will ever come true.
Recent posts of his that have given me this feeling include his "let's overthrow all the corrupt African governments and let the church run things," "the South will ask for increased autonomy in the event of a pro-gay marriage legislation and I think it's a good idea," and other such things. It's all just struck me like "it matters so little that you think this." Maybe that's just because I disagree. I don't know.
My ultimate opinion is that, once you get down to it, he doesn't really take his own opinions all that seriously (which is highly contrary to my initial impression of him). He just thinks what he thinks, and he never has any good evidence or sources for thinking it but it just doesn't matter because he doesn't care. There's an almost real purity in that that I actually admire in a way. He's so foolishly extreme on so many occaisions, and he usually gets pushed to such heights by the emotional counter-arguments of people who disagree with him. So my conclusion is that as a representative of a school of political thought, he's way less threatening than the supreme bluntness of his opinions would make apparent at first.
He IS a nice guy, and I've even on occaision been able to have some fun with him in discussion.

Hey I'm one of the most moderate people on here. It's just that the vast majority of posters are social communists :o
I actually read all of Cain's post. Which is novel, because usually I just read the first sentence and then any CAPS LOCKED or bold faced statements. Hey, I have other books to read.
To 'fess up something to you: sometimes I say things just to rile you up :p They most always do reflect my views, but sometimes I'll add a little bit more to the rhetoric, just to see the reaction. And it works.

I don't think they're fringe at all. I think, coming from where you come from in terms of social politics, you have a distorted opinion of what fring is. Fringe would be saying gays should be shot. Or that we ought to outlaw homosexuality. I'm just conservative.

BDR, this "social communist" term you use, which I've never seen before... You use it to design all clear leftists? The term is unclear in itself, but you seem to use it a blanket statement against leftists.

Not the best, but a good mod. I may not agree with everything he says (well, I guess i don't really agree with much he says anyway) but he is a good mod not letting his beliefs run threads. He doesn't close threads just because he doesn't agree with what's being said in them.
