View Full Version : New Brand New

So after an extensive search of.... everywhere, I finally came across some of the new Brand New off of "Fight Off Your Demons". Now I always view myself as an open-minded individual, but from what I've heard, these tracks (with the very notable exception of "Cleanser" or "Untitled 5") are....bad. It's Jesse, I can tell. But it sounds as if some 13 year olds grabbed an acoustic, learned power chords and how to mute and just went with it. Go to Limewire and check it out if you want to listen to them. Thoughts?

Most of the 9 leaked demos aren't going to be on "Fight Off Your Demons", and those demos aren't new- they've been around since February.

And I love them, all of them- Jesse's lyrics have matured and is complimented by the music which sets the tone but doesn't try to take away from the vocals.

Untitled 9 is such an awesome song.

A palindrome's spelled the same way forwards and backwards. This is a palindrome:

Go hang a salami I'm a lasagna hog.

Anyway: I'm stoked to hear the new Brand New stuff. :D

I'm iffy, though. I like YFW so much because it's sooo young and angsty but Jesse was so clever. The music's ace, too. I didn't like Deja Entendu much. It was OK...I miss old angsty but clever Brand New.

Tracks 5 and 7 will be on the new album (I'm not sure it will be called Fight Off Your Demons yet, but I like that title), the rest are just demos they recorded during the first demo session in 2005.

Isn't "Yeah" going to be on it?
Or are those two the only confirmed tracks? When did they get confirmed anyway, because I haven't read much about the demos recently.

Another song has been played live, and there are recordings, but I can't find a dl anywhere.
It's got the lyrics from the site, where it said "I love you so much it hurts my head", and it says "The storm is coming!" a few times too.

I read that Brand New have done 2 albums before these demos, but they didn't release either of them. That may not be too reliable though, because it's off Wiki.
Wouldn't surprise me though, I read they have done over 50 demos for the new album.

And apparently someone from Men, Women and Children has heard the new CD, and said that none of the demos were on it, although I'm guessing this could change, as it may not have been the final version of the CD.

On songmeanings.net, the title of that song is "The Storm Is Coming." But it's all based on user submissions, so I don't know how accurate it is.

LOL, i had a chat with the DJ from MW&C a while and he said Jesse wasn't letting ANYONE hear it. Apparently they are pretty good friends and he was telling me about how the demos were leaked and stuff. Cool guy but it didn't sound like he'd be hearing it anytime soon.

Well to me, it seems like they're heading in a direction that seems like a fuse of Deja Entendu and something of the Smiths. Jesse's always been a fan of Morrissey and the Smiths so I assume it'd be natural for him to start heading in that direction. I don't know if it's random though, cause I always thought there was a huge change between YFW and DE.

And that's my 2 cents.

bottlerocket
06-09-2006, 10:47 PM
Yeah, I know he's always loved the Smiths...but still...they had such a good gig going before Deja Entendu. Honestly, I don't see why most people on here bust a nut over that album. It's mediocre at best. YFW is superior in every way. However, those are just my opinions and people will disagree with me.

There really is a huge change between YFW and DE...it's almost like a totally different band.

DaveIsWrong

Yeah I'm going to have to go against your opinion and say that I think Deja Entendu is better. I mean, Jaws Theme Swimming, Okay I Believe You..., Guernica, they just seem to make the album that much better than YFW. But I still do believe that YFW is without a doubt a great album.

We'll just agree to disagree on which is better.

But it seems like they grew more mature musically and experimented more with Deja Entendu, and I'd only expect them to do the same with this album.

I've heard quite a few songs off of here, from off Myspace band profiles. Its some good stuff. The acoustic track that went something like "I'll die before you put a gun in my brothers hands" is such a great song. And there is some more experiemental stuff happening here. Such high hopes for this album.

DaveIsWrong

I just searched for Fight Off Your Demons, and I got some faulty stuff, but mostly full songs.

Brand New, as much as I love them, I just don't trust them...at all. I mean, I'm not looking for any "Seventy Times Seven", it's just that all of these demos sound like "Play Crack the Sky". Which isn't a bad song, it's just really simple and is one of the weakest on Deja Entendu.

Here's to hoping for a good album. :chug:

My guess will it will be released around winter this year, maybe November-December. Brand New are arguably the best band on Triple Crown at the moment, so this will be well promoted and toured for.

As for how well it will leak, that's another matter. This album is going to be huge, so TC will keep it guarded safe. I'd say maybe a week before it's released will be when the leak happens.

Some possible news about new Brand New:

The title for the new album may be The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Of Me. Jesse apparently announced this at a show, but at another show said they weren't sure. The first single will be "Take Your Head Apart", although it's unclear whether this is one of the demos or a new song.
