View Full Version : Top 100 Pop-Punk Songs - Nominations

Angry Balled Fists!
06-08-2006, 02:54 PM
Ok, i decided i'm gonna do this as it will be fairly fun and interesting.

Some simple rules:

1. You can vote for up to 5 songs. That's it.

2. They have to be pop-punk. I will allow bands such as Senses Fail and the likes. But bands such as Thrice and Thursday aren't allowed. Ska pop-punk bands are obviously allowed. I will be happy to discuss these kinda quesions.

3. The nominations will be closed in 5 days. So get your votes in.

4. I'm going to include 100 songs for the polls, so if there is more than 100 songs then i will have to do a random process of elimination for the songs with only 1 nomination. If a song has more than 1 nomination it will automatically make it through to the polls.

5. I hope that's clear, go nuts :D

Good timing Dan, as my Non-Pop-Punk Bands List will (finally) be posted this weekend. :)

It's going to be hard to pick 5 songs though. I'll have to get back to you. :-\

Oh yeah i forgot about that, the blurb writing has taken agess.

I was thinking that 10 would end in there being too many songs nominated therefore i would have to cut down too many.

btw, it's best if you don't choose 5 songs from a band, as if makes it fairer and easier but i'm not gonna object really.

Bayside - Megan

That song was written by The Smoking Popes not Bayside.

skingle
06-08-2006, 03:50 PM
I know that, but i prefer the bayside version. If it has to be the original then i'll just change the artist. |Besides the vocalist is still on the bayside recording isn't he?

DepthsOfDreams555
06-08-2006, 03:52 PM
Well, like it should be changed because they just performed it they didn't write it. And ya the vocalist is on the Bayside recording, but that doesn't really matter.

skingle
06-08-2006, 03:53 PM
I guess dan can decide whether covers are allowed. I just really like the two voices together, and that, in my opinion, is what makes it better than the original.

i don't know the names of the first two tbs songs, but i know the lyrics so:
1. the one that goes "WE WON'T STAND FOR HAZY EYES ANYMORE!"

2.and the one that goes "the truth is, you could slit my throat, and with my one last gasping breath i'd apologize for bleeding on your shirt. AND ALL I! NEED TO KNOW! IS SOMETHING.... MAYBE I SHOULD HATE YOU FOR THIS, NEVER REALLY DID EVER QUITE GET THAT FAR."

Blink 182 - "carousel"
Brand New - "Jude Law and a Semester Abroad"

I'm surprised by the lack of Blink and the overwhelming amount of Saves the Day. Both bands should have highly rated songs.

I don't like Saves The Day at all <_< urgh urgh urgh urgh urgh.

Blink182 - Dumpweed
Goldfinger - 99 Red Balloons
NOFX - It's My Job To Keep Punk Rock Elite
Captain Everything! - Rocket Science?
Millencolin - Fingers Crossed

Jesus, that was so hard. I tried to pick songs that represented the very best things about pop-punk, but my god it was hard.

I dropped Anti-Flag for Goldfinger for example, as the 99 Red Balloons cover is an absolute classic. Captain Everything! won over Catch 22's Keasbey Nights, simply because I feel they are one of the best upcoming pop-punk bands on the scene today. Dumpweed is an absolute classic, as is Fingers Crossed; personally I think they're the most representitive of pop-punk songs by both bands. I couldn't leave out the fastest NOFX song/album opener ever though :) I'd say The Decline, but that's had at least two nominations already. I really wanted to put Rancid - Radio in, but there just wasn't space.

I chose Black Lung because it's fun to play on bass. Pretty tricky but not as insane as Maxwell Murder and Axiom.

Although my favorite Coheed song is "The Crowing," I felt it wasn't pop-punk enough. Maybe I should have chosen Devil In Jersey City or something.

Alright, i've added in Adams noms, and i've nearly finished the polls list.

25 songs that got 1 nom got taken out randomly, and there are now 150 songs ready to be voted for.

I'm going to release 3 polls every day or so.
