I get the whole rebel image, but... whatever happened to writing good songs, and not songs to piss people off?

He's got a good point, though you don't see many actual "rock" bands around today...

Manok, go check out The Atomic Bitchwax, and come back here after you've listened to them. :thumb:

I have listened to rock for quite awhile :). I just find most lyrics today are mostly either retarded or just said to piss off certain people.

Give us an example of what you listen to.

Which is why I said why dont you bother looking further into the genre? You're generalizing. That usually means you're basing it on almost nothing.

Most lyrics aren't written to piss off people. Most people don't try to write retarded lyrics. If you want lyrics that are awesome and don't piss off people you need to find a new genre. Otherwise I suggest getting signed.

I think that rock is way too watered down....no one is trying anything new or original.

And if you can't come up with something new and original, the next best thing is coming up with something controversial. Rock barely even does that anymore.

So am I the only one who's wondering what the hell the point of this thread is?

I was rather dissapointed with Neil Young by rehashing the idea of "oh, the president sucks" in his latest album. I thought Prairie Wind was good however.

Thats another of my feelings as well. For those that ask what I listen to I mostly listen to metal, not for the lyrics but for the music. I'd be just as happy today if metal bands stopped writing lyrics. Can't understand the vocalists anyways, not that I have a problem with the vocal style.

Haha my friends have a mock-grindcore band and instead of uses words as lyrics they use different sounding grunts :amaze:

It's getting harder and harder to wade through the ignorance of this forum...

Part ofme would like to think that this entire forum is ironic, and we could all be having a laugh at everyone else underneath it all, but unfortunately, everyone is too concerned with their fringes and such...

Go listen to not only The Atomic Bitchwax but also some Lost Horizon and get back to me.

Power metal has the best lyrics.

Shattered_Future

It really, really does.

"It was a time of change. The descendants of the Atlantean mages had fallen
before the New Praesidium, and the wolves were baying at the Empire's door.
An oppressive new faith was encroaching from the east, and the sylvan liege
had locked tight the gates of his arboreal realm. And so it was that towards
the end of the Age of Mystery, the last of Albion's great Dragon Lords did
gather for what would be their final battle..."

Well, that's not COMPLETELY power metal, but you get the idea.
