I listened to 00 Void and I am not impressed at all. I have heard this band praised as it was something brand new and unique. It is that, but I was lead to believe it's actuall music. Three of the songs on the album where the exact same note played over a long period of time. Am I missing something? I know if Eggo sees this he will have my head, but I can't help but comment.

You spelled their name wrong in the thread title :P
It's got two N's
Anything I've heard by these guys has bored the piss out of me.

It's not as much boring as it's not there at all in my opinion.
It's all a matter of atmosphere. Their music is really gloomy and dark, if you listen at the right persepective. But of course, to some (most) people, it's just going to sound like noise. Try Black 1 if you wanna hear more from them, they records vary, and I thought Void was their worst.

Black One is probably the best Sunn O))) album to start on.

Worse than their demos? Anyway these guys have to be self published, I don't see a way any label saw enough marketing for that sort of thing to sign them.

you have to be in the right mood to be able to listen to them. when you listen to sunn o))) during the day (sunshine) you won't like it for sure... try to listen to them at night (after midnight) right before going to bed. that's what i#ve done often

I like them. They're adding something new to their genre. Sure, they're similar to Earth, but they have a darker feel. I bought Black Ones about a month ago, it took me a while to get into them, but it was definitely worth it.

So did I. I don't really like that album. White 2 ftw.
But yeah, Sunn O))) requires a certain mood for most people. It's more of an experience than anything.

i was thinking the same thing.
mayeb im missing something.
maybe i got the wrong files cuz it's just one note droning on and on for several minutes.
i understand they're bringing something "new and fresh" but...even when sitting down and just listening to them with my eyes closed, it's so incredibly boring.
I have Black One. I listened to the first two songs and determined that this band is terrible.
Just because they are doing something "new" does not means it's good.

You're not really supposed to concentrate on the music. You're supposed to let it engulf you in waves of sound. Some songs they have that feature electronic drums, or even some vocals are interesting to read at face value, but for the most part the music is supoosed to test the limits. To me, the music is greater than the sum of its parts, and it's really evident for all the tracks that feature just a loooooong droooooning noooooote. If you need coaxing into their abrasive style, try the song "It Took the Night to Believe". It's off of Black One.
BTW if anyone wants any albums from me, I have them all.

I love this band..but I have to be in the mood..and only certain albums are good...I really want the split with Earth..

Thats kind of what I think too. I think a lot of people say that they like this band just for the sake of saying that they like some really odd and obscure band.

I'm not going to say they are great by any means but on occaision I put them on, turn out all the lights and just lay there and exist. It's intriguing on occaision. I think if you were high it would be a trip.

Haha. Honestly I hated it when I first heard it, and thoought the same as everyone else. That's because I didn't like it for what it is. Honestly, I find it incredibly relaxing.
And to above, yeah, it is quite the music to listen to when high, haha.

I couldn't get it. I listen to Black One and was just bored. If another album shows up on the DU I may give it another shot, but it doesn't seem my thing.

I got really stoned and when I got home my windows player was still on with their album so I decided to play it again while I just stared at my wall and ate. Yeah it was different I will admit, but honestly I tried doing something simmilar again today and it didn't do anything for me. I do not want to have to get high everyime I listen to them, I barely do anyway.

I'm so cool, that for my final exam project in English, I've incorporated a Sunn 0))) song as background music! We have to make a video/audio tape relating to some hooha I don't really care about, so I did it, and it sounds kind of cryptic! I used "A Shaving of the Horn that Speared You", off White1. I only used the first four and a half minutes of the song though, because seventeen minutes is a long time.

Yeah, I can definitely see that.
When I first bought "Black Ones" I only heard that SunnO)) was a very doomy band. When I heard that, I was thinking doom metal, not drone. I fast forwarded through the first song, thinking it was just an intro, I kept on fast forwarding until I realised I had skipped through half the CD.
At first, I was pissed off that I wasted my money; but I gave them a second chance on my bus ride home, I fell asleep listening to them. It is quite relaxing, but for some reason or another, it puts me in a bad mood.

Trip on acid. Then listen to Sunn.
Also check out Earth, they really established the drone metal genre and add more to it than Sunn does. Earth > Sunn 0)))
I highly recommend White 1, Flight of the Behemoth, and Black 1.
My Wall, The Gates of Ballard, and A Shaving of the Horn that Speared You are ****ing EPIC

I can never seem to find there albums in stores, nor on Bittorent. I'll have to look again now though, as I got a better program to find Torrents.
From what I heard, I realy liked. Atmospheric... realy you have to be in the right mood to listen to them. I seem to be in that mood a lot lately though, so it's all good.
