I didn't download to much off the jazz list this past time. I wanted all of it but I wasn't about to fight Megaupload for 10 albums. So I grabbed Joe Pass, which is absolutely brilliant btw, and the Jonas Hellorg.

Well, I think my bass playing is mostly to blame. Way back in the day I worried too much about when I was going to learn various things(like being able to tap well enough to play moonlight sonata) when I should have been practicing the fundementals of playing bass.
I'm catching up on lost time now.

I'm also going back to four strings for some time. Six strings are just distracting me, I've gotten way too into my extended range and how useful it is when Im not using all 4 of my basic strings.
I'm going to wait until I can "Make a 4 string seem huge"(george smed said that) before I go back to playing sixers.

Think about people like George Smed or Stu Hamm. Peices like Love Thang or George's rendition of Wonderful tonight don't need six strings. They can be perfectly complete, an entire sound, off 4 strings. So if they played a six, it'd be...godly.

. So if they played a six, it'd be...godly.
Or horrible.
Most players with 6-strings overplay too much, especially solois.
The whole essence of Love Thing would be replaced with too much notes where silence should've been.
There's a reason why Wooten doesn't use six-strings anymore.
But, that's just in general.

Same.
It allows me to play a wider range of notes in Jazz band without switching positions. If I get bored, I can play octaved notes easier.
More notes readily available to me when I tap.
Higher chords.

Modes have a lot more use that "just scales", but you have to get into pretty archaic music theory dealing with church modes etc. Other than that, good stuff. :thumb:

Well if you believe Jesus was a messiah, why are you Jewish?
Believing that Jesus was the messaih is a key theological difference between Judaism and Christianity, but by no means the only distinguishing factor between the two. 2000 years of evolving culture and tradition have separate Chrisitians from Jews in more ways than belief in Jesus. Do Christians celebrate Jewish holidays, follow laws of the Talmud or any other of these Jewish observances? No.

You do realize that you can be Jewish as both a religion AND a nationality.
I am Jewish because some of my ancestors hail from Jerusalem, but I practice Christianity.
Hebrew refers to ethnicity, "Jewish" refers to religion.

New Rise Against album. Is very very good. Go listen :)
Man, my fingers are killing! I've just played acoustic for about 3 hours.. I'm trying my hand at some new techniques in acoustic, like incorporating percussion on the guitar into chord progressions and fingerpicking :)
I'm not very good on acoustic so it's rather frustrating! I don't like not being "able" on a musical instrument! :p

I discussed this with my history teacher. Hebrew means that your ancestors have come from Isreal. Jewish, specifically, is from Jerusalem.
The two however are both acceptable and used interchangably.

It's not the only difference, but it is the key difference. Culture and tradition might be different, and I can see wanting to keep that. But my opinion stands, I think the idea of considering yourself a Jew and believe Jesus is the messiah is dumb. It's picking and choosing what parts of the religion you believe. If you are part of a religion, follow that religion. don't say "oh well I am part of this religion, but I don't believe this main point. I'm just going to pick the parts I like." If you don't agree with a part of a religion, don't follow that religion.

Actually, Jew can refer to nationality as well. But my dad talked to a man who is part of the Jews for Jesus thing, he considers himself Jewish in terms of religion.

I guess you/your history teacher are half-right. It's not Jerusalem-specific, it's the whole region of Judea. But it can reference the ethnicity.

This is where my girlfriend and I debated yesterday. If you believe something and it betters your life and makes you feel complete, then by all means, believe it. If scientology can exist, then personal religions can as well.

I disagree completely with what you are saying. For one, Chrisitians have been doing this whole "pick and choose" thing for 500 years since the Reformation. Martin Luther picked and chose what parts of Christianity he liked and disliked and started Protestantism. Religion is a very personal choice, and calling one's personal spiritual convictions "dumb" just because they don't conform to an extreme of the spectrum is, well, dumb in itself.

I never said Christians don't pick and choose. Many do, and I disagree with it. Religion is indeed very personal, but if you disagree with major teachings of a certain religion it makes much more sense to me to be personally spiritual as opposed to a member of an organized religion.

Now you're just being stubborn. What's the difference between being personally spiritual and being religious? I sincerely doubt every single person agrees with every minute detail of the organized religion they practice, and the way that a congregation of worshipers practices the religion will vary - vary significantly even - from congregation to congregation. I belong to a Presbyterian one who is fairly liberal and interprets the bible metaphorically for advancing an ethical code of conduct whereas other Presbyterian congregations might interpret the bible literally, or follow some tenets implied by the text more closely than others or whatever. The difference in culture between two congregations is enormous and thus personal spiritual conviction is significantly differant, but they are the same religion.
You make organized religion seem infallible. All it is is a structure that is used to govern belief, and that structure is malleable.

The point is that it isn't like Jesus being a messiah is a small difference between the two religions. It's a big difference. Not the only one, but a big one none-the-less. I fail to see the logic in being part or a religion, but not believing in the teachings of that religion.
And please, don't call me stubborn because I disagree with you.

And my point is that the difference between a liberal congregation and a conservative one isn't a small difference either. It's a huge one. Also, you haven't said what is to stop somebody from starting another religion if they are dissatisfied with the current one, going back to Martin Luther, and these Jews for Jesus. Obviously there are a lot of people that follow these faiths.
And quid pro quo for me calling you stubborn for calling my argument "dumb".

You could do one of the succes de scandales of the early 20th century like Igor Stavinsky's Rite of Spring or Erik Satie's Parade. Both caused riots after their debuts and were part of the French belle époche, the late 19th century and early 20th century renaissance of bohemian art and culture in France and abroad.

Yeah, I didn't get off the waitlist so I've been accepted next semester, Spring 2007. I'm not sure if I want to go then, though, because I've been accepted to the University of Maryland, which has very solid music program and facilities, and I'm going there first semester. What's the word for like when you pay homage to someone/something else in something of your own? Like in a song or something..

I have no idea how much that is, but if this cheque has my vacation pay on it, it'll top $1000 (CAD).
Yay for big paycheques!

it's a shame symphony x isn't discussed more often in here, they have an awesome bass player.
what's your favorite song by them?
mine's either inferno or the divine wings of tragedy.
Inferno ftw!

I just about have everything I want as far as basses go :) Just need to get my hipshot xtender and I'm set for a looong time! I'm after saving for a car/a years insurance over the summer. Should hopefully be able to pass my driving test by the end of the summer.
Grrr... its 3:25AM and I'm about halfway through my essay that's in for tomorrow.

Yeah, see, I got into an accident last September and my insurance is too high for me to drive my own vehicle. So I've got 4 years to worry about that. :p
