AFI have ****ing lost it

Yes i have AFI's new white album in my hands now looking at the silly black rabbits that circle the AFI writing. And white seems to sum it up, its boring, Daveys voice, jades guitar, hunters bass, lol, adam doesnt even play the drums anymore. Its poppier than blink and there are so many drum machines and keyboards i wasn't sure whether to post this thread in the Indie forum.
Has anyone else heard the album?
if they have do they think the same or am i completely wrong?

P.S Miss Murder is the heaviest and one of the very few bearable songs on it.

AFI have always been a pretty dark band, and now they are on a major label they are just using more instruments to get that across in their music. That being said, it is very boring. I can listen to it, but it has nothing on any of their other albums, even their other major Sing The Sorrow.

yeah it still has remnants of darkness but its so much slower and less heavy than sing the sorrow, maybe they will find a new audience somewhere.

It sounds like their selling out the 'emo crowd' by Davey doing his screaming vocals. I don't know, it just doesn't sound like AFI at all to me. I mean, Sing the Sorrow was different, but at least it actually sounded like AFI. I think they're trying to do something different to the way they normally sound but they're missing it completely, they've gone off their signature sound which people have come to love them for.

Its sounds nothing like them, i only heard Miss Murder the other day, i honestly thaught it was some english indie band which is what they usualy play on Radio 1, then they said it was AFI. I was like "wtf" and ive not been impressed by the album, prefer the old stuff.

I honestly don't like it. Like Lilly said, it just dosn't feel like an AFI album. I mean, yeah, Sing the Sorrow was different to their old sound, and it brought them a huge "emo" following, but it was still good hard rock at the centre... this is too... I dunno, experimental? Too much electronics, too slow, too much screaming. Stuff thats all been said I think.

I would have said many of the things you just said about Decemberunderground. It was just so different to what I was used to, but when I seriously gave it a second chance, I grew to love it to no end.

I have only heard the first 4 songs but I have a feeling this album's gonna be incredible. It should arrive in the mail between and next week so I'll be able to say for sure then.

People said the new Thrice was boring but I thought that was by far their best album.

Miss Murder isn't the heaviest song on there, but I appreciate the sentiment. Sing The Sorrow is roughly 9 million times better, but it's a pretty remarkable standard to set yourself. 'Love Like Winter' and 'The Missing Frame' are among the best songs the band has produced.

2. Davey's voice is at least as good as it was on Sing The Sorrow. I agree his screams sound too overproduced on songs like Affliction and Kill Caustic but if you've seen live videos you'd know that he can totally recreate these live.
3. The art work is great.
4. Jade has written some of his best guitar riffs ever on this album. Listen to Affliction, the little solo in the Killing Lights and especially Endlessly, She Said.
5. Adam plays drums in every song. And all the electronic beats aren't that hard that he couldn't play them live.
6. Hunter's bass rocks. Except for the Miss Murder intro.
7. Poppier than Blink? See point 1.
8. What's wrong with keyboards? If anything they add to the music. Listen to Love Like Winter. Or the organ outro to The Interview.

Try these songs: God Called In Sick Today, A Single Second, The Prayer Postition, Total Immortal, The Boy Who Destroyed the World.

If you don't like those.... then I dunno. Give up on them, because those are probably some of their better songs in my own opinion.

I haven't had a chance to hear their new album yet but i was flipping through the channels and saw "Miss Murder" on TRL, and since TRL doesn't play the whole video I didn't hear the whole song but from what I heard I thought it was pretty good.

Well I'm not a big AFI fan, but I have STS and listen to it occasionally and I got Decemberunderground and I really like it. I've listened to it a ton lately, and it's a solid album IMO. I would like to listen to some old AFI but don't have any. I'll get some soon though.

The common theme seems to be that new fans (Sing the Sorrow Era) like the new stuff while older fans hate Decemberunderground. Makes sense, since AFI pretty much abondoned their hardcore roots, which is what made their two recent albums.
