Well, I've got my eyes on the Tascam FW1082 because it seems like a nice deal for what I'm using right now (just simple home projects nothing TOO serious).

But i wanted to know what you guys think of it, because its so cheap, it seems pretty iffy. I'm using Cubase SX3 which i'm sure itll be compatible with, but I want to know about the firewire connection/latency and all that. Harmony central doesnt seem to have reviews on these kind of things so I'm asking here.

Right now I'm using a behringer eurorack mxb1002, if it helps - determine if its an upgrade or downgrade, and by how much (?)

is it that this forum is realatively dead or just incompetent to answer my question(s)?

definite upgrade. You gain the ability to mix down the tracks later, and the 1082 acts as a HUI controller as well. It's a handy device to have around if you want to record and mix on a computer. Firewire and Latency generally aren't a problem if your computer is only about a year old or so. The Rackmount model of the FW series (the 1804) does 16 channels on my 1.8 Ghz laptop (1 GB RAM) reliably. It took some tweaking though.

Lots of helpful folks there.
