They were simply made better with better hardware, electronics, etc.
They were also meant for more comfortability and didn't give-up as much tone just to make it cost less.

They were also made in japan, and have basically been replaced with the CIJ range fenders. Basically what you get if you buy one of them

I bought it off of Zzounds.com
Musiciansfriend.com had ridiculous shipping fees. I can understand why, an 18 wheeler pulled into my driveway to deliver the thing.

good choice. i also have a MAG c410t and it's awesome. the only thing i'd reccomend to you is to put casters on the bottom, as that amp is a b*tch to carry around.

why would then have a separate brand name if it wasn't ever a separate company to be bought out? its the same story with gibson and epiphone.

squire started as a fender trange type thing it still said fender were it does normal and said squire at on the end eventually squire took place of the normal fender logo and became it own brand. it satrted in th 80s as a way of competing with the japanese copies that tokai manufactured

but even if they didn't do it to squire, fender bought out trace elliot, which then caused the people who disagreed with it to form ashdown, which was then bought by fender (against their desire) and because ashdown resisted being bought, fender delayed the production and release of their pedal line and such just so spite them for not wanting to be bought (i heard that on the internet, so i'm not sure how completely reliable it is.)

how muuuuuuuuuuuch?
Would that be a good (meaning cheaper) alternative to buying a cab and head?
Thonk
06-03-2006, 01:27 AM
I think they run around $500.
It depends really..If you plan to stay with an Ashdown head and cab, then this may be a good choice. But if you think you would end up getting a new cab or a new head later down the line then maybe you should save up more (or less) to get a head and cab.

Is it actually cheaper than buying the head and the 4x10 cab seperate?

Gibson bought Trace Elliot from Kaman, who had gone quite a way to ****ing them over.
I don't dig the Ashdown sound, it's a bit too flat and fluffy for me, but the cab looks nice.

Yeah, we have a japanese squier at college :) It's a pink p-bass with maple fretboard. It's rather cool!
Nice amp by the way! I've considered getting one of those if I start gigging..

I like the fact it's loud, and reliable, and it does have a really nice tone that can go from warm and smooth to growly and anywhere in between really. I love the ashdown tone. The only thing I don't like is the weight, but that's hardly a major drawback. I got the 1x15" more a little more low end and volume.
EDIT: oh, and I like the fact it looks sexy

it's cheaper. It's the same concept as the hartke vx3500 combo. Instead of getting the vx410 and the 3500 head (which i did separately because they didn't have that combo yet) you get them both for a cheaper price together. I also would hav never gotten the vx3500 because i'm kind of gangly and would have trouble carrying that monster around. Another thing is that i plan on upgrading my cab soon but keeping the head which can't be done with a monstrous combo like that. Other than that i'm sure it sounds great and gets tons of nice tones, but i really do hope you have a forklift or some friends to help you carry it.
oh yeah, the actual head is damn cool looking. Reminds me of an old space show from teh 70s when they play with all of those giant dials and stuff. Idk if anybody else knows what i'm talking about, but it looks cool.

So I take it it'll pull off growly solo bridge Jaco-esque Jazz tones well?
And I must agree, it looks well sexy. Like mastrrbasser said, like some vintage '70s B-movie spaceship.

I cant help but notice your input is maxed, does it run into the red alot?
muthafunkabass
06-03-2006, 10:28 AM
Yeah, is that really how you set your tone? I've never heard a very overdriven tone (your input and sub-harmonics levels are mazed) with a scooped-eq sound good. Especially through a 4x10.
I guess whatever works for you.........
