i assume that warwick > rockbass just because of the price, but what are the actual differences between warwick and rockbass

woods, build quality, electronics, hardware, setup....pretty much everything bar shape.

Simple answer?
Rockbass is to Warwick what Squier is to Fender. Cheap, overall lower quality versions meant for beginners or people who are short on cash.

Yeah, the materials on Warwicks are superior to those used on Rockbasses. The Hardware is not that bad, the pickups are ok. Still, Warwicks are the better instruments. No doubt about it.
Well, I'm quite happy with my Rockbass Corvette 5-String. But if I would have been in the same situation again like I was like... 2 years ago, I would check out 2nd-hand Warwicks opposed to Rockbasses (though the Rockbasses were much more then as they are today price-wise).
With today's prices they are a good starter bass or 2nd bass to consider. But if you want to step up from Beginner/Medium-Bass to high quality, better check out 2nd-Hand Warwicks than Rockbass models IMO

interesting logic my friend. price does not neccessarily indicate quality
it does in this case though :thumb:

The whole Warwick tone comes from its exotic woods. If it weren't for the woods, Warwick's tone would be crap.
Enter the Rockbass. :(
Rockbasses are built with lower quality, they don't use the exotic woods Warwick does, poor hardware and electronics...overall, they just don't compare to Warwicks.
They are, however, decent basses for the price, but you're paying a lot to have Warwick associated with your bass. You're better off getting a Warwick.

Well, I don't know how prices are over in the US, but mine goes at 450 Euro at the moment (Corvette, passive 5-String). It is really a solid instrument, and does a good job, but don't expect the Warwick tone. Like Gav said, wrong wood and hardware for that

basically a Rockbass is everything bad about Warwicks (i.e. MEC Pickups) and none of the good things about Warwicks (i.e. exotic woods, hand-built construction, German craftsmanship, etc.)

I happen to like MEC pickups.
I consider RockBasses to be pretty much the same as Mexi Fenders, except with the 'wick name and shape. And theyre more expensive.
Youre better off buying a used 'wick than a new rockbass, imo. I just got a used Streamer for less than $400US (its a streamer std, so its not like it was that expensive to begin with, but hey, its a good deal).

i concur, except i think that rockbasses sound much, much, much, much better than the mim fenders. people are being unduly hard on rockbasses for the sole reason that they are not warwicks. they're not warwicks, sure, but they're by no means bad basses. they play well, sound good and look pretty
Like I said in another thread, if I didn't buy my Warwick Corvette Standard, I'd've (<--is that correct?)gotten a Rockbass Streamer 5. It was quite beautiful. I do not agree with people saying Rockbass is to Warwick what Squire is to Fender. That's just no right.

I've never played a warwick, but I have played a rockbass and I can say they are quite good basses for the money, not sure If they are the best value though, but if you love the look of Warwicks you don't have much choice :D

Rockbasses necks feel a million times better than most Warwicks.

bleh.
rockbasses use maple necks. warwicks use wenge or ovangkol, both of which needn't be finished, and both of which feel soooooo much smoother and sexier than even oiled maple can.

the first example that jumps to my mind is the jaco sig bass, the jazz they beat the **** out of and epoxy, then turn around and sell for like $2,000
edit: i'm sure the $22,000+ alembics aren't of such fantastic quality that the price is justified, either.

Fair call with the Jaco sig, but with the Alembics surely the materials and build expenses/labour cost associated with crafting custom basses like that would go some way towards justifying the price.
What I'm trying to get at is that most of the time, (IMO) price DOES reflect quality. In the case of Alembic, yes they're expensive, but they ARE quality basses. Same with Musicman, Warwick, Sadowsky etc. You get what you pay for.

you can get a carl thompson custom made to yoru complete specifications by hand by basically a crew of 4 people who have several other basses to make at once for a starting price of 3500 or so.

alright, warwick>rockbass, fine,
that doesn't mean rockbass=bad basses...and it definitely does NOT mean they're meant for beginners, i got a 5 string active corvette (rockbass) as my second bass and i love it, and still play it all the time along with my CIJ 800$ fender
my point is, there is alot of pointless rockbass bashing going around just because they're not as good compared to warwicks...well i've said it before and i'll say it again, no **** they're bad compared to warwicks, they're 1/3 of the price!

RockBass is sort of the Warwick equivalent to OLP. They use Warwick designs (Corvette, Streamer, Fortress, Vampyre) and make less-expensive versions. Most feature alder bodies, maple necks, and MEC electronics.

common knowledge: warwick >>>> rockbass
common misconception: rockbass sucks
rockbasses are GOOD basses...they get the job done well and every one i have played in a music store i enjoyed. the problem is how people view them..like in this thread, comparing them almost naturally to warwicks. it is best to view "rockbass" and "warwick" as two totally different brands, like ibanez and fender, because essentially, they are.
