ok. not directly about bass. but.

i have my driving test in 2 and a half hours. i've finally found all the pieces of paper i need for it.

AND it's just dawned on me that *IF* i pass... then i wont have to lug my amp onto the train anymore for gigs in manchester. and i wont have to drag it to my drummers for practices. which is a good thing!

so. anyone have any problems getting to gigs? interesting driving tales? just to take my mind off things...

When I was doing my work experience with the police I was shown photos of a guy who crashed his car because he fell asleep behind the wheel. He was thrown through the windscreen, pulled under the wheel and dragged along as the car did a 180 degrees turn. In the end, he looked well ****ed, so always remember to drive carefully!

i was shown a video from a crash scene involving a rover metro i think. and a 20 tonne gravel truck. the bit where they picked up the body bag and it look like a bin bag full of water was rather well. scary.

saying that i've allready had the car off the road and almost killed the entire family when a van ran a redlight infront of me.

go team!

The thing about driving to gigs is that you can't get as wasted as you should. Unless you don't mind driving durnk.

I have taken my rig on a bus before.
I know on the drummers forum someone knows a guy who took a 9 piece drum kit (including hardware, cymbals, pedals etc.) in a taxi to a gig.

One of my best friends died about 4 years ago because someone "didn't mind driving durnk[sic]."

Care you change your mind about what you've said?

Drink driving is for fags.

It's hard enough by it self, esp dealing with all the morons.

Shame my 4x10 doesnt fit in my car.

Yeah its fine if you have a pint though maybe 2 if its a long gig, its basically worked its way through when the gig is over if you've eaten and you can handle your piss.

Lucky for me I have parents to drive me to gigs, so I can drink there.

By the way, raiven, if people can squeeze 9 piece drum kits into vauxhall novas I think a 4x10 cab will fit in a car.
Flatten the back seats down

Sorry to hear about that. I didn't mean to say that driving and drinking is alright. If anything I meant the contrary. I was just pointing out that you shouldn't take your car to gigs, because it's almost impossible to not have a few beers or something. That's what I was trying to say.

So unless you don't mind drinking and driving do not take your car to a gig. Who in its senses would drink and drive? Nobody, but the thing is that usually after a few drinks you tend to forget that....:upset: I once crashed heavily into a light post driving under the influence....luckly the only injured was myself.

Sorry if I made you feel bad, but that was not my intention.

my band tend to write our myspace on the drumers arse and then advertise it to passers by on the way home. its fun. my guitarist drives like an idiot though.

Why is it impossible? I'm always the dedicated driver when we do gigs. Mainly because i don't drink alcohol anyway.

Btw, i drive a van. It's great, i can take along my own equipment, my guitarists gear, my drummers stuff, a small PA system and 3 people. Almost the entire band in one vehicle. Except for the singer, but he has his own car, so he can go to hell.

It's very easy to not consume alcohol at a gig. It's called self control. If you find it necessary to consume alcohol while you're playing a gig then;

1. You easily give in to peer pressure
2. You might have a problem with alcohol
3. You might be lacking self confidence and "need" the alcohol to hide behind
4. You may suffer from stage fright and "need" the alcohol to overcome it

There are more.

I've seen many bands (including ones I was in) fall apart because of alcohol. It started with one or two members just having one or two drinks at a gig, then it moved on from there. The one or two drinks became more drinks until the band members were too drunk to play properly or they developed combative attitudes because of the alcohol and started fights.

I've never drank any alcohol at any gig I played. It's just not worth it. There are already too many drunks in nightclubs, they don't need the entertainment to be drunk also.

Another thing on that note, some nightclubs won't hire bands back if they get drunk. Even if it's only one member that gets drunk. They don't want or need that.

None of the above really. It's just that I like having a couple of beers and hanging out before and after I play. It's all part of my method to disengage from my work routine and live the carefree lifestyle of a musician.

It's cool if you can have a gig and not drink. I can and I feel fine but I would much rather not do it.And I don't feel it is a problem it's just that I like to have a few drinks and have fun. That's all.

care to change your mind about..."thinking about other things" while driving?
