Alrighty guys,
It's time to get new snares! I've already gotten a Custom 14x7 Cherry Snare so that covers the fat wood spectrum... Sooooo time for some metal fetish...
Now here's what I'd like you guys to do, I'm gonna write a list of 14'', 13'' and 12'' snares and you tell me which you prefer from each list....
And don't give me the usual ''Go play them''.... I'm not in a position to be able to play them...
Here goes
14'' Snares
Pearl Sensitone Elite Brass 14x6.5
Pearl Sensitone Elite 1mm Steel 14x6.5
Pearl Free Floater Brass 14x6.5
Black Panther Hand Hammered Brass 14x6.5
13'' Snares
Black Panther Premium Brass 13x5.5
Yamaha Mushashi 13x6.5
Pearl JJ Sig 13x6.5
Yamaha Brass Nouveau 13x7
12'' Snares
Pearl Firecracker Steel 12x5
Yamaha Mushashi 12x6
Yamaha Steel 12x5
You can give other suggestions if you please.... Just nothing too expensive...
Thanks!!

Nah forget 5'' deep, they don't have that full bodied presence... I've played on a 14x5.5 for a bloody long time and I'm royaly tired of playing on that size....
you say forget 5' deep but you have a 5'deep snare on your list.

You say your looking for a metal snare drum, but the musashi is made from oak.

I'm not sure of your hatred for a 5'' depth. Especially since you are wanting a different snare. The depth alone does not = the sound.
You also arent saying if this is to be a main snare or side snare?
Anyway, for a good all around metal snare I would go with steel. Any of the black panthers or yamaha's. But as mentioned above, musashi's are oak :P

The depth alone does not = the sound. First off that's wrong, a deeper snare has much more body to it, a fatter tone and the sound is considerably different....
All these snares will be used as main/side depending on the gig or sound I want....
And yes I know, Mushashi's are Oak but it's pretty much the only wood I'm accepting :p
Keep 'em coming guys!

As I've mentioned before, I'm in no position to do that...

what was wrong about my statement?
I'm pretty sure depth is not the only thing that makes a drum sound the way it does. Which is what I said. Please, enlighten me.

Hmmm sorry about that.... Must of misread it or something....
Let me clear that up for you sir :)
Your right, depth is not the only thing that makes a drum sound the way it does. There are more inflential factor such as metal/wood, thickness, construction but depth does affect the sound considerably, less snappy, more sustain and other stuff...
Sorry again m8! :chug: :smash:

I just got a Tama 14x8 bronze snare it sounds really good. I think bronze is a good all around metal to go with. It sounds like a mix between a wood snare and a metal snare. I have a 13x5 brass Sensitone too. If you like a metallic sound, then I say go with brass.
