A few weeks ago a I found a site called Monkeydoo... using the site you could set up a fake news page. I decided to have some fun...

It all started around a week and a half ago. I sent a fake story on the news story (using the site) to a friend saying that Dave Grohl had died. About a second after hearing it, my friend posted out a myspace bulletin with the link attatched. I quickly told him it was fake and we moved on with our lives. (Remember I told ONE! person)

The news quickly spread around our local town, with friends coming up to me telling me the sad sad news... I was obviously quick to tell them it was me who had written it.

Well within a week I found the news had spread across the web (Just type "Dave Grohl Dead" into any search engine and you will find hundreds of results). I was starting to feel bad (I had only wanted to test the news site on one friend to see how well it worked..) It seemed some people were really sad.... I then felt just terrible.

Now here's a question... How can you tell when a joke has gone too far? How about when it gets plastered on the front cover of NME (The UKs Rolling Stone.. kinda) I kid you not...

That one joke I made (using Monkeydoo.com) within a week and a half was on the front cover of the UKs top music magazine.

I am so so sorry for upsetting anyone. I feel really bad (Dave seemed kinda pissed of in the interview)

Just goes to show dont even joke about shiz on the internet.... it can go toooo far.

So here I am, it was me. Sorry to anyone that got upsett. It was only ment as a joke to trick ONE friend... and wow wow wow it went to far.

But hey, f you guys I made the front cover of NME.

Just by looking at that page and reading the article (the way it was written, the lack of commas) it is obvious that it's not real. And for a big magazine to actually put this on their front cover without doing any real research? People are just too ****ing stupid.

Haha I know im so amazed they used it. I think they where going to interview Dave and "IM NOT DEAD" seems like a good thing to have on the cover (looks interesting to read)

I dont know if I should post this in the pit now. It seems like it would a little crazy as people have already seen it here.

But one day on im still totally amazed!

Sorry about bringing this topic back to the top. But I figured you would like to hear the second part of the story.

So I sent an email to NME... within a day they wrote back asking me if I would like to take part in an interview regarding the story (Obviously I agreed)

So around about 10 minutes ago I got of the phone to the deputy news editor of NME (It was the same guy who had interveiwed Dave a week or so ago) He was a really nice guy, luckily he told me that Dave had seen the funny side and that he wasnt too pissed off.

He asked a few questions and shiz... and thats about it. He wondered if I planned a future in propagandha writing.. I said no. Haha, good times, good times.

This whole thing started from this stupid running joke between me and a friend (We are always trying to prank each other) This time it just went a little to far.

That's nothing! I created a rumor that the guys from AFI were gay and ... oh ...wait ... ... they are, oh ... nevermind.

i think you may be full of **** about starting this "Dave is dead" because I've looked on their website and there is nothing about this being resolved to you or anyone admitting to starting the rumor.

:/ Don't go round making jokes like that.

But despite that, man, that's classic. You won the Internet.

Your wording in the article, particularly that "...he will be joining his former friend and..." bit didn't sound too professional a way of doing it, but hey, a lot of people wouldn't (and obviously didn't, lol) pick that up. Even those working for a mag... which just makes it better.

I guess it shows just how credible media and all that can be when it comes to celebrities.
