yo guys aint seen you in months. anyway, straight to the point, a slightly incompetent individual (read: music tech teacher) broke my 57.

Yellow wire and green wire, there are two very thin copper wires coming out of the capsule which I'm guessing have to be resoldered to the two coloured wires. How do I know which one to which? I don't want a permanently phase-reversed mic. Oh, and, how well would the mic work once done? Like before? I'm guessing not (I'm letting a friend who has soldering iron & exprience do it).
cheers all.

my advice is to make the guy who broke it pay for it...besides, even if you do mess up when resoldering it, its not like you can't just reverse the wires and have it work, right? right?

Okay, I'm going to ramble for a bit here. I believe that all the following is correct, but there may be a mistake somewhere.
1) In audio, traditionally, black = HOT, and whatever else is typically neutral. this is not the same as in power/electrical/data wiring, where typically red = HOT.
2) If there is no black wire (as I'm seeing there's not here), usually white = neutral.
3) As long as you can correctly identify the ground wire (always Pin #1) you may not be super-concerned about getting the other two correct. Even if out of phase, most mics are really sending the same thing out of phase with itself on 2 pins of a balanced connection. Unless you short out to ground somewhere, it should work. If the phase turns out to be problem, just resolder as suggested.
4) The best way to get it right, in my opinion, would be to get another 57 (preferably from the same year of production) and check how the wires look on it. That way there's no guessing (unless the wire colors don't match, but that seems silly to me). 57's ought to be common enough that you could find another one to compare.
