well. i bought myself some onboard electronics today. a vtb and qdd from axesrus (impressed by the site. very quick delivery)

i do have one tiny problem.

i dont think i'll have enough space on my pickguard unless i just drop the qdd in place of my only tone pot and bung the switches between the tone and the volume control for the vtb. however. this leaves me with no tone pot and also no way of getting to the batteries easily.

would it be worth getting a new pickguard and extending it past the bridge? chiseling out a larger cavity and possibly putting a kinda battery box in?

choices choices.

any advice would be nice. failing that. i'll post some pictures and maybe a few soundclips when im done

cheers

i recall seeing a bass build in the bass forums once where i forget who.. put all there electronics knobs and switches on the back control cavity cover. Maybe route out a cavity on the back and put them in the same way?

I'll try to find that thread so you can see

cant find it right now, i'll look more after school lets out

it'd be harder to put a cavity in the back i think. i've just ordered a larger piece of acrylic for a new pickguard.

here's a rough paint kinda image of what im going to do.

the scribbled in white bit is what im extending the guard too. and the blue bit is what im routing out.

ignore the pink bit at the top, i was thinking of losing the horn at the top of the pickguard but i changed my mind.

1. Routers and pickgaurd material are fairly cheap. Go for fouting it out and extending the pickgaurd.

2. With an extended pickgaurd, it would loook sweet.

umm, can anyone explain the uses of preamps and active electronics for me?

Greater tone control without adjusting the amp.
