i work on sessions and projects at a large studio on a protools hd system on a mac and when i bring the sessions home on my firewire drive and bounce them to wav, they always lose tons of quality. the 'sss' of words and vocals are blistering with high end and it just sounds stale, like the low end was sucked out of it. also, the levels never match up to what i usually hear in protools on playback. the vocals, for example, are always tons lower in the bounce than they are in protools playback. what could be the problem here? i'm running an m-audio delta 44 with protools le 6.7 [don't ask] on winxp. any suggestions?

also, could the sample rate and such have anything to do with this? the session was started at 48.0 [i usually use 44.1] and 24bit. when i bounce, should i use 24bit along with 48.0?

i havent tried bouncing at the studio, so maybe i should try that tomorrow.

cd audio is usually bounced at 44.1k at 16 bit. so that could cause some of your problems. but in pt 6.9 the levels are always lower then expected. the only way to remedy it is to go out of the interface to an external recorder. pt 7 actually does not do this. also when you open the file tick off enforce mac pc compatability. thease are some tips but they could solve some of your problem

definitely bounc at the studio. The converters in the Digi box are most likely better than those in the M-Audio box (I've had some problems with M-Audio gear in the past and wouldn't put it past them to be the root of the problem).

Also, remember that Red Book Audio is (by definition) 16-bit/44.1kHz. So bouncing out at a higher bit/sampling rate will only require you to dither and resample later. This could help, however.

I actually did some resampling then dithering and the results were much better. While the pres in the Digi rack aren't the best by far, they are much better than the ones I have.
