Tascam FW-1804 firewire interface into a Dell Pentium M laptop computer (1.8 GHz processor and 1 GB RAM under the hood). That covers 8 channels w/ 4 pre-amps by itself, but I add the ADAT output from an SM Pro 8-channel mic pre for an additional 8 channels of audio.
Cubase LE is my DAW for the moment.
My mic locker has the following:
2 x Shure PG-81
3 x Shure PG-45
1 x Shure PG-52
3 x Behringer XM8500
2 x Peavey AE40M
4 x MXL 990
1 x Audio-Technica ATM63HE
1 x Audio-Technica ATM25PRO
2 x Behringer Ultra-G Active DI box
In terms of outboard and processing I have a Roland TD-3 drum module, a Digitech RP200a guitar processor, a Digitech BP200 bass guitar processor, and a Toneworks Miracle keyboard/MIDI controller. I also have an older Dell laptop (1.0 Ghz P3 with 513 MB RAM) that I plug an M-Audio MobilePre USB or M-Audio Uno into for a seperate MIDI/Effects engine powered by VST plugins should the need/desire arise.
Lastly, for monitoring, I am still using headphones. I have a pair of AKG K240M (the 600 ohm version) and Beyerdynamic DT770 headphone monitors.
Shure SM58/MXL 990 -> Studio Projects VTB1 -> M-Audio Delta 44 -> Alesis 3630 -> Pro Tools LE -> Polk Monitor 50's
Moseph, how are those SM preamps? They can't be any better than the ones in the Tascam I could imagine. I'm looking for a few more cheap preamps for the near future. What are your thoughts on them?

Why do so many people use a SM58 te record? The SM57 is much better for recording! Even better maybe are the mics from MXL (if you don't want to spent to much money).
Anyway:
Interface: Tascam US-122
Mic: Old Classic Philips condensator microphone
Keyboard: Studiologic SL 880 Pro
Monitors: Behringer B 2031 A
The monitors are ok if you just start recording I guess, but otherwise I would get soms KRK's. No Money, No Money!
The first 3 things on my list are:
1. New Mic for recoring.
2. M-Audio interface, cause the Tascam isn't that great
3. Midi Controler for Logic (of maybe I'll go for the M-Audio Project Mix I/O, so I'll have the controler and interface in one! Money! Money!)

Well.. The SM58 is the most versatile mic ever made in my opinion.. Plus, it cost less than many mics.. So it opens the mic to more uses than just for recording.
However, personally.. I would probably go with another mic for recording - but I have the SM58 'cause it was the only one I could borrow from a friend of mine.. If I was to invest in a proper vocal mic for recording, I would first have to re-train my voice.. As it has become quite a bit rusty over the years. Particularly over the last few years 'cause I have been playing guitar and bass more than I have sung.
I also have a Shure BETA 87A.. But my toneport doesn't support phantom power and I don't have a mixer. :p

CAD GXL2200 condensor into Behringer MIC2000 tube preamp to a Behringer UB502 mixer, into an SB Live! 24-bit external USB soundcard. Alternatively I'll also put my EV N/DYM 367 dynamic through XLR to the mixer.
Then the signal goes into an IBM T40 notebook running XP pro on a 2.2GHZ Intel Centrino processor with 512 DDR RAM. I'm using Sonar 4, with a whole ****load of VSTi's.
ummm samples.. I'll add later.

Line 6 Pod 2.0 into a DI box into my crap computer.
I use Cool Edit Pro 2.0
I usually do my vocals in the college studio, through a Sapphyre mixing desk into a Tascam MX 2424

Let me put it this way: I'm saving my money for a Focusrite Octopre LE.
The SMPro preamps are less noisy than Behringer I.M.P.'s, but they don't offer as much gain. If you want ADAT for under $400, then you're stuck between those two units unfortunately.
The Tascam preamps aren't really that bad. They pretty transparent is all. So they don't warm anything up, but they don't cause any problems either.

I use a guitar, into a line 6 PODxt pro, then from the XLR outputs into a large berhinger mixer (not sure which model) then from that into a USB interface, from that into the comp, then record onto software, the POD is where all the quality comes from!
