So today I went to radioshack and I bought a 1/4 to 1/8 inch line in adapter for my guitar. I plugged it in, and I get a clean sound, so huzzah for that much.
However, I also downloaded a VST host (Cantible) and a VST plugin program called FreeAmp SE. When i open up FreeAmp in Cantible and select different presets, the tone doesn't change- It stays clean.
Could someone remedy my problem or reccomend me some better VST hosts and plugins, please?

Cantible is new, and possibly buggy. VSTHost is more seasoned, do a search for it (it's by a programmer named Hermann Seib) and try it out. It takes a little learning, but I know that program much better and could possibly help you out if you find trouble with that. I know nothing about Cantible.

Okay, I got VSTHost, and I loaded FreeAmp, but it still won't make any sound. I have my guitar plugged into the line in, but yeah..

make sure you set the program to "run." It's the top line of the "Engine" menu, and also a button in the toolbar.
If the output is all mono (left only), you can adjust the inputs and outputs on the individual plugins. Set them both to "Channel 1" on the input, so that both sides of the stereo output are fed by the mono guitar signal.

do a google search for "Fretted Synth". Small freeware developer. Makes good sounding guitar/bass amp sims.
