Right, so I'm a real sucker for an epic song.
Long build-ups, massive cruscendo's, it's all for me.
I need some good music, it doesn't have to be post-rock specifically, but anything int eh same vein as sigur ros is great, but variations too.
So, anything epic, let me know!
Peace out bretheren.

and painting over the blood on the walls
and lies and releases from silence by envy
most other 'epic' songs sound more like 6 minutes of boring random noises and two minutes of an actually good song

Craig Armstrong - Hanging/Escape
There two different songs that sorta blend into each other, but its about as Epic as you're ever, ever, ever gonna get:
Escape:
http://www.spiceweasel.net/misc/escape.mp3
Hanging: http://www.angelfire.com/vamp/kaydalia/Craig_Armstrong_-_Hanging.mp3
I put Hanging second b/c its just Buildup, whereas Escape is the Cruscendo, and is awsome.

the last one is onhly in for having epic in the title
i don't listen to much epic music because of what the tway said... boring

Speaking of epic, right now I'm listening to the new Agalloch disc (more specifically "Not Unlike the Waves"). This song is simply amazing... certainly one of the greatest things Agalloch have created.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Blaise Bailey Finnegan III
Mono - Halcyon (Beautiful Days)
A Silver Mt. Zion - Sow Some Lonesome Corner So Many Flowers Bloom
The Arcade Fire - Vampire/Forest Fire
Explosions in the Sky - Six Days At the Bottom of the Ocean
The first and last ones are probably my favorites, and the Arcade Fire one isn't that epic but it has a great build-up towards the great ending.
Slint - Good Morning Captain
Best build up and ending ever.
This thread should of ended here. Anything Slint. Actually upon listening to Slint everything else is just not as good.

Hated it.
Slint - Good Morning Captain
Best build up and ending ever.
When he starts screaming I have a tendency to just lose it. That is a buildup, people.
I'm a big fan of The National's "All the Wine;" when it hits the bridge, it's just breathtaking.

Hell yeah, my personal favorite for epic bands. Also look out for "A Classic Arts Showcase" which is even MORE ridiculous in terms of strings and a choir and the whole nine yards. Probably my favorite song off of Worlds Apart.

Lots of good suggestions in here. I was going to suggest the Tomahawk song that Tangy suggested. Instead, I will suggest:
Smashing Pumpkins - "Tonight Tonight"
Aereogramme - "Post-Tour, Pre-Judgement"
We Followed Tigers - "The People From The Sky Said They'd Return"
Mogwai - "Mogwai Fear Satan"
Mono - "Halcyon (Beautiful Days)" (seconded from Wanker)
The Flaming Lips - "In The Morning Of The Magicians"
Listen to the entire Jeff Buckley - Live at L'Olympia album, it's pretty epic..not to mention crazy good.
muse - pretty much all their stuff, except the new song. Hahaha, although its probably the most epic 'alt-dance-rock' song i've heard.

Amplifier are a must. Their debut album is fantastic.
Muse to a certain degree, songs like Butterflies And Hurricanes, Newborn and Citizen Erased build-up nicely.

Thanks heaps everyone o lord you've helped me more than I can imagine, I have so much epicness to sit through I might just implode.
Thanks though, and keep it up if you have any more suggestions!
Wonderful call. Followed by a bad call, but still.
Quoted for truth.
Destroyer - "European Oils"
I cried the first time I listened to this album. I've always been a big Bejar fan (well, since I first heard Streethawk: A Seduction back in 2001), and I think Rubies is excellent.

As far as music descriptions go, 'epic' is right up there with 'emotional' for the most useless.

Thanks Plath, you just spoiled all my hopes and dreams that were building up on those single words.
But it lets people interpret it how they want and recommend me the music they see fit.
