We are going to use it for practice too, thats why I'm getting a powered one. How many mics can I use to record at once? (Drums) Also, I want to wire it in like so....

Mic>Mixer>Soundcard

Is that possible with this mixer while still retaining quality? I don't want to spend much dinero on an audio interface right off the bat.

I'm getting a Soundblaster X-Fi Platinum for my birthday. This will make it sound much better also right?

All I ask is that will it achiever sound quality as good as this or greater.....http://www.myspace.com/stainoffaith

Oh yeah, I'm using Sonar 4 Producers Edition to record. Thanks!

How many mics can I use to record at once? Twelve, quite obviously.
Is that possible with this mixer while still retaining quality?
Should be okay. Of course depending on the quality of your soundcard.
Use the tape outputs into your soundcards line-in, and avoid any clipping.

The A/D [analog to digital] and D/A [do i really..] converters in the Soundblasters aren't the best for recording considering that's not what the card was meant for. Creative, however, has another company called E-mu that make soundcards specifically for recording that have better converters. Most likely you won't notice if you're asking about all of this in the first place, it's just something to keep in mind later on down the road when you may want to buy any Digidesign converters...

Simply put, yes, you'll be fine with that mixer and soundcard. Better than probably most people here in fact..

Thanks for the help guys.

One more quick question, I'll try to get an answer here.

We have an extremly crappy, (like mud), mixer in my band. I was just messing around, and went from mixer out into the soundcard. Horrible quality of course, but after some mixing and effects in Sonar 4 it sounded ok. Now, when I exported it, it sounded like tin and aluminum foil. Why would this be if I already set the effects and saved/exported audio? If anyone can help, thanks!

Also, thanks Vizo.....I'm gonna get the e-mu 1820. It rings a bell because a local kid has a recording studio and he uses an e-mu audio interface.
