hey guys, here's the deal:

my band and i are lookin 2 have our own little basement recording studio, and we pretty much have everything we need selected, except for a soundcard. we're a 4-piece band (drums, 2 guitars, bass) and we need somethin w/ enough inputs for all that. we do have a mixer though. we're not looking for anything top of the line, just something to make a 10 dollar cd with. does anyone have any reccomendations?

well. you will not be recording everything at unce will you?

so basically you have to decide how many inputs you want to use when recording the drums.

i cant really give you any advice on that though, since i do not know what your other equipment is ... i use a presonus audio interface wich i love, but for recording drums it probably wont do the trick.

anyway ... give more info and maybe you will find more help

Just use the mixer to plug into, for a good quality recording it is recommended you mic all toms have 2 overheads and mic snare + kick so thats 7 mics on a 5 piece kit.
You can however use 2 overheads, snare mic and kick mic and it will pick up toms okay.
So buy a mixer with enough inputs and get an m audio soundcard they absolutely rock.

I've got an M-Audio Delta 44.. it's got 4 balanced ins and 4 balanced outs. That should be plenty and only costs 150. If you don't want to spend that much then you can get their lower end that costs 99 or so. If you're using the mixer for the inputs then you don't really need more than one or two inputs on your soundcard. Save money.

You can even have two smaller mixers and run them into your soundcard.. you know, one for just the drums and another for everything else.

I don't mind helping people who have specific questions. You shouldn't be on the internet if something like that drives you out of whack.
