Would this work? I have an 80's era keyboard, and I was wondering if I could play line in as I could play line in with a guitar. The only effect the keyboard has is chorus, and I want to actually use it in my music and songwriting, so yeah..Would it work the same as with a guitar?
If so, are the VST patches/plugins different?

If it has a headphone output, just send a stereo lead from the headphone out to the line-in and record away just like you would a guitar. You'll have to get volume levels right to avoid clipping but thats it.
I'm confused by what you mean by 'If so, are the VST patches/plugins different?' Do you mean MIDI controlled soft synths? or do you mean are the effects plug-ins that you put on guitar able to be put on recorded keyboard?
If you are talking about Soft Synths, then you will need a MIDI keyboard to control them.
If you are talking about using effects plug-ins on the recorded keyboard, then you should be able to ues the same ones as guitar.
I'm still confused by what you mean by that comment though??!

I've never actually recorded or played line in with my guitar, but to my understanding, you can get a VST host, then download VST programs such as FreeAmp so that when you plug your guitar into your line in, you can used the VST programs to generate your guitar sound.
Do these same VST programs work with a keyboard, not just my guitar?

Both types of plug-in would technically work, but the only ones you could really make use of would be compressors, chorus, reverb, etc. I've never heard of anybody who wanted overdriven amp simulation on their piano part, but if you're big on the synth stuff, give 'er.
I also read from that, you may suspect plug-ins as being needed to get any sound at all, which is untrue. With a guitar, you need a little tone shaping before you have anything to work with. However, with any kind of keyboard, it's usually designed with normal, full range speakers in mind, so it may not need quite as much TLC to get a decent tone.

Allright, thanks man.
So, which VST host would you reccomend, and what are some good plugins?
