This is obviously a Remembering Never thread.
So,
This band is probably the closest thing to true hardcore with a modern sound. They have the slow, crunchy breakdowns and alot of that "generic" sound, yet they stay true to what hardcore is really about.
If you read the lyrics, you'll find this out yourself.
I find these guys to be a great band.
Not to mention, dancing/moshing is so fun to these guys.
What do you guys think about them?

Your taste in music is a ****ing bummer.
Go destroy everything you own which has a breakdown.
Then buy a Sepultura CD.
But never come back here again.
Eat ****.

And what are you basing these things off of?
Just because they aren't 80's hardcore and they have breakdowns?
So what.
I like this band and I like Pete's views on things. He has good opinions and he's not ignorant like alot of people out there today.
Thanks for sharing your opinion.

Good job backing your words up.
Need me to elaborate for you?
What is hardcore about?
Expressing your feelings through music. Right?
That's what punk was always about.
Giving a big middle finger to society and telling everyone exactly what they thought.
The modern sound nowadays is breakdowns, dropped guitars, lots of screaming, and a generally generic sound.
So excuse me if I'm not kissing *** to all the older guys here who talk about going to Bad Brains and Gorilla Biscuits shows back in the 80's.
I guess bands can't be hardcore nowadays, only metalcore.

Just because a band covers Earth Crisis and plays shows with Terror doesn't make them hardcore.
The modern sound is not "breakdowns, dropped guitars, lots of screaming, and a generally generic sound", while bands may have some of those elements that is most deffinently not correct. There are a million bands who do not have those elements and are more hardcore than Remembering Never will ever be.

Name some.
And before you tell me Terror, Comeback Kid, Bane, etc. I know they are hardcore and they are in the modern hardcore scene. But they have the traditional hardcore sound to them.
And more bands than not have the sound I described.

The oldest person here is about 18 or 19.
****ed Up has a "traditional hardcore" sound.

Do you agree that those bands have a traditional hardcore sound?

They have a hardcore sound if that is what you mean.
VTDS_xx
05-23-2006, 03:20 PM
Yes. That's what I mean.
Music also changes over time.
Their is a modern sound for everything, and the modern sound for the majority of music with the "core" suffix stuck on them is breakdowns, screaming, and double kick drumming.
What Remembering Never stands for reminds me alot of what other hardcore bands stand for, but they just sound different.
I don't see why a band has to sound like Bane or Black Flag to be "hardcore".
Let's Chop Cats!
05-23-2006, 03:21 PM
Except these modern 'core' bands don't sound like them most of the time or almost ever.
They don't have to sound like those bands to be hardcore but they have to have a similar sound to them. There is nothing resembling hardcore music in RN's songs, not to mention that most of their lyrics suck. You can only stray so far from a sound before it becomes a different type of music.
Matt?
05-23-2006, 03:23 PM
it's sort of just that, the sound that bane and black flag have is hardcore.
hardcore is a genre with a specific sound
VTDS_xx
05-23-2006, 03:23 PM
Ok, you make think the lyrics suck, but do you agree that the vocalist is doing what hardcore vocalists have been doing for nearly two decades, just in his own way?
Let's Chop Cats!
05-23-2006, 03:25 PM
No not really. All the lyrics/vocals are, are a wanna be Earth Crisis who is not the best band to epitomize hardcore with.

There's so much stupidity and ignorance oozing from every pore of this thread.

But I've always scene hardcore as more than just a musical genre.
"They use the lyrics to express their personal views on things that are affecting them as well as the things around them."
I've heard the term "New Age Hardcore" being used more than once, I figured they would surely fit under that.

If music was only defined by the lyrical approach than you couple put Operas in the same genre as Ignite or Bad Religion.
