View Full Version : What is YOUR Eq?

I almost always scoop mids, though sometimes I "peak" the mids with no treble and a bit of bass to give out an _AMAZING_ fake biamping tone(tons of low end with some great growl).

Sounds badass with a jazz(blended) or a P bass (maybe sheehan?).(hint :))

I was playing with an EQ pedal and skipped every other setting(set rest at 0), steadily decreasing each time, and it gave this super trebley whine. Did the opposite and my amp asploded  (i somehow activated the active tap with the end of the cord, which blew part of my speaker.)

Bass: 6
Low mids: 10
High mids: 4
Treble: 6

I dig a growly tone. That's what I use the most, although I've been experimenting with a deep, focused, bassy tone lately.

Hey, who is this 2 year old kid posting on the interwebs? :p

Oh, on topic: I found a wicked punchy tone yesterday with my Schecter on my Peavey TNT 115. I forget the settings, though. :(

Any suggestions on something very punchy? I want to find it again.

And the ultra-lo activited.

Sometimes I cut the highs a bit and run my OD channel along with it with a lot of the bass cut, the treble boosted a little, and the high mids boosted. This tone is amazing, it's like biamping, but with two completely different EQ sets for each channel. I can't wait to get a full stereo rig.

(Ampeg SVP-BSP preamp, by the way)

I usually keep my amps EQ on neutral but sometimes I boost the lows and highs on it a bit. (9-band EQ)

the eq on my amp is completely flat. I get a nice sound in passive mode out of my marcus miller sig, and in active mode i can make any changes and that's enough for me..

and also when playing my active rockbass corvette i usually keep the eq flat, for metal i give the treble a slight boost and lean towards the bridge pickup, and for anything else i play with the bickup blend knob and bass boost

I'll boost the mids a bit, or just leave it flat. If I really need to, I'll make minor adjustments to suit the place I'm playing, but thats about it.

Yup I do this too.. A bit of highmids sometimes to give the extra dirty growl.

I play upright, so I've got low=10, mid=0, treble=0. it's the only way I get that classic boomy but still clear standup tone.

when i still used my 15" combo, i got a nice punchy tone from:

Treble: 4

On my Sansamp Para Driver:

Treble: Just above 9 o'clock
Mid: about 2 o'clock
Bass: about 1 o'clock

MidShift is as about 11 o'clock, which puts it somewhere around 600Hz i'd guess.

Also, I adjust my drive to the pickup blend i'm using, i like to keep it just on the verge of noticeably overdriving. Depending on the situation, I can play light and get a very clean sound, or dig in and get some grit.

Assuming 5 is flat (my EQ is graphic).

Low bass - 7
Bass - 8
Low mid - 3.5
High mid - 6.5
Treble - 6
High treble - 5

I basically scoop and then bring the high mid in as necessary. I cut the low mid usually but boost it up to around 8 when my band plays YYZ. I have the bass really high to compensate for the EMG hz's.

Generally I have the mids at 6-10, have treble at about 3-4, bass around
5-6. To be honest, I don't care about my tone right now, practicing with my band and not playing a lot of shows yet. I play cleanly and hard with heavy strings, so my bass usually sounds good and punchy and I'm fine with that.

I tend to leave my Eq fairly flat, Enhance around 8 - 9 o'clock, a bit of bass boost and maybe a bit of boots around 300hz.

I've playing recently with everything flat.

Recently, I have been doing the same thing on my amp. On my bass (Stingray 3-band EQ... I <3 it.), I boost the mids quite a bit... and depending on the song, I may boost the bass a little bit as well.

Usually I leave the highs flat unless I really want a trebly tone, which is not often.

How would you get a really toney, trebly sound? Like that of Matt Freeman or of many punk rock bands for that matter? Been learning a lot of Rancid lately and it doesn't sound so hot with the muddy *** **** I'm using.

I usually have the EQ going like a small hill, bass and high pretty much flat, the towards the mids it goes up.

I want to test out different tones though, maybe something more punchy. I don't know what I want yet :)

i boost my low end, low mids, and i keep the high mids a little above flat and my highs a little higher than that. I like a growly dark tone, with nice top end definition, and i finally pulled off the tone i want.
