Mmkay so I'm a lead guitarist/vocalist not a drummer. I've had this set for 2 days. I paid $60 for it. It's a TKO. It has lots of duct tape. It be missing lots of parts. Hardware/cymbals are very broken/bent/damaged. Duct tape. Also, I apologize for the lack of bass drum... I can only kick it so hard and get so much volume out of it, as it's quite literally a kick drum..... I have no pedal! Argh!

Haha awsome man. 2 days isnt really enough to learn much, but you have some basic ideas going on. Get a teacher if you want to be serious with it.

You should take a picture of your set and nominate it for "Ghettoest Set Award."
At least, it sounds like a good contender from your description.

That's what I was thinking. I can't find any batteries for my camera but I'll get some up eventually.
So I got it from a coworker.. he told me he'd sell it for $60 and I agreed. That was before I saw it. After I saw it he was like "are you sure you want this?" hahah. I was like hell yeah, this is exactly what I want! The crappiest set I've ever seen in my life, because it's all I can afford! It's pretty bad, really. The best part is how the toms are all wrapped in masking tape/duct tape/some electrical tape, and just kind of balancing on the bass drum because the mounts are missing/broke..?
Even though I've owned this for 2 days, I first learned "AC/DC type drumming" a few years ago on my own... and I've had a pair of sticks for a couple months and that's why I can *kind of* do rolls. I've always wanted a set and I'm sure havin fun with it. A teacher though, I dunno. I'm interested in stringed/wind instruments more, so I'll probably never give drums proper attention. :( I do plan on buying "stick control" and maybe some other books, I would like to be at least decent at drumming, even if it's not good enough for recording my own stuff.

Any particular reason?
Or is it the fact that my name looks awfully a lot like "pespi," which I discovered not long ago..?

Yeah, it was the Pepsi thing. I thought you might've been a vet who just got a temporary account while they were banned or something. :p You're real cool though... I should hang around here more, guitar forum people are rude/n00blets.

Y'know, I noticed that the majority of people learning guitar are like 12, so that almost doesn't surprise me.

Lawl, that's what I said when I first saw it! It's funny because before I saw the set, knowing that I could buy it for $60, the seller was like "are you SURE you want this..?"
Then when I actually saw it, I laughed so hard my stomach hurt... it was just freakin funny looking, haha... he was like "...do you want it?"... I managed to nod my head among all the laughing...

Awesome, thanks a bunch buddy!

Yeah no kidding. In fact, nowadays, when I meet someone who says "I play guitar!", or bass, I usually just write them off. Too many n00b "guitar players", it just doesn't impress me anymore.

Yeah, guitar is way to easy to obtain which is why so many people are bad at it.
Drums are expensive... (except yours :chug: ) so kids don't want to invest the money.
I dug your soundclip by the way... very Peart Esque:p

So true. People buy $100 Squiers/Ibanezjunk/no name acoustics and say they play.

I think your toms could use a bit more duct tape, I heard some ring in the sound.
:)

:upset: *goes and buys more tape*
For some reason the second tom (like.. the middle one) sounds REALLY muffled, can't figure out why. I guess it's the head...
Amazingly though, all that tape was included with the $60 drums! Wow what a deal!

I can't believe you guys actually listened to my recording of really bad playing. The first time I listened to it I was like "whoa, my timing's bad! ...but the mic did a good job." And I kept stopping and deciding to play something else. At one point I was trying to position myself better to be able to kick the bass drum more efficiently, haha. You like the snare sound, really? I guess that's the best part of the set!

Well,
GET THE TAPE OFF OF THE ****ING DRUMS.
For a start.
It could be an okay setup if you replaced the broken bits and bought a pedal and took the tape off of it.

hahaha that's funny man.. not bad for 2 days.. :)
and ahhh I couldn't stop laughing every time I heard the bass drum toward the end.. the visuals of you just kinda glacing down and giving it a nice solid kick with you shoe every time... too funny. :)
Peg Dizzler
05-24-2006, 01:43 PM
Hahaha. :D Yup. I still can't get over how funny it is.
As for the tape, well, the tape as pretty stuck on the heads. I'm not sure what the tape on the toms is for. The hardware might be broken or something. I don't really plan on putting any money into this set anyway, instead I'd rather just slowly replace each piece. I'd start with getting a pedal and a new high hat stand. But there's too many other lutherie-related stuff I need to buy now, so I'll have fun beating on this junk for now. :p
specs plz!!
Uhhh dark red shells.. uhh... 16" Sabian B8 crash... broken junky hardware... TKO... Camber hats... metal snare drum... ?? Haha, I really don't know what else to say. Ludwig/duct tape heads on toms, Evans head on snare.
