Yeah IM not really a begginer, i have been playing for about 10 years but only seriously for about a third of that time. I Just need som help on the timing for Stockholm syndrome by Blink182.
I can play the little intro bit, but after all the insturments come in i get lost until it gets up to the part where the drums do a seris of snares rolls interupted by highhat hits,i can do that part all the way up to until he starts playing that same beat thats goes throughout the verse and chours.
If someone could throw me a bone, like maybye just tell me how to count this song, because to me it seems like he is going out of time for a second and it just confuses the hell out of me.
And please if you going to diss travis, by all means go ahead, just please not in this thread, im trying to get an answer here, i already know how most people on this site feel about his playing.

Just by looking at a tab...
It seems as though he's doing triplets offset by 1/3 of a beat.

Meh, maybe it'll help you.

<3 the Muse.
Absolution is such the greatest CD.
But I should've figured Blink..."dumpweedrock" is kind of a dead givaway.

They're one of the best english bands together.
Before you call them the greatest though, listen to the who and tell me they aren't the greatest (well if they had their original lineup)

I like how Muse jacked this guy's thread.
Silly bands and their same-song-name tendancies.

Steering back to the topic.. actually as soon as i saw the thread name and the dumpweed dude (yeah dude get ready for a life of major flamage for that name) i knew what it was going to be about.
But about that song.. it DOES have a trippy intro, but it's more like it misleads you to a false sense of rhythm. I had a hard time following the intro too when I first heard it, until I analysed the song.
I can talk about it in detail but the simplest I can put it for the meantime is that when the song starts, it does NOT start on the 1 count/ downbeat.. it starts on the 2nd beat (IF you're counting by 8ths/ 8 counts per bar). You'll notice this more concretely in the choruses, where the crash hit does NOT fall on one but on the half-beat AFTER 1 (or as said earlier on 2 if you're counting by 8ths).
I'm a music analyst and I tend to remember a few random songs that have the same "trippy" intro as this, in the sense that the 1st beat or note heard does not start on the "1" count/ downbeat, but some other count throughout its rhythm sequence. I can't think of another song with intros like that at the moment but i'll get back to you when i remember or hear one so you can absorb what I mean by it.
But yeah.. quite unexpected for a band like Blink 182 to do such a thing but their rhythm section IS their most (or their only) talented area.
BUT YEAH! count 1 THEN press play.

It's not that bad, keep working at it.
Anyway hehe, yeah, July 3rd their new album comes out. They're playing on Jonothan Ross this Friday btw in the uk, so they'l be playing Supermassive Black Hole no doubt, and perhaps Knights of Cydonia, both great tracks.
Theres some people in classifieds who have already given out links to their full album, which has been leaked already.

That really sucks when a band's album gets leaked out all over the place =(
And I wish I lived in the UK. They probably do more tours there than here, and I bet they avoid this state altogether because AZ blows. Hardcore.

I can't wait to get a job so I can buy all their other CDs.

Anyway...

I don't have the other Muse CDs =(
I only had enough money for 1, and I recognized "Time Is Running Out" and "Hysteria," so I bought that once.
I'm planning on getting the rest though. I look at them every time I'm in FYE. And watch the prices slowly drop.
But, right. Anyway.

Absolution was their best. The new one is a bit more.. dance music than anything.
Stockholme syndrome, or Hysteria were easily the best songs off that album

Yeah, their new one is sounding more poppy-fied, but still a good balance.
For media studies in year 11, I did a music video for hysteria, that was pretty cool. Il try and get it off vhs somehow and put it up here.

s.s. is when someone kipnaps someone...puts them in a tiny box...and they leave them there...soon the person who was kidnapped starts to believe that the one who kipnapped them is the one they love and they start to worship them...cheers:chug:

Not necessarily, it's just when a hostage shows loyalty to the hostage taker. A tiny box is not recquired.

I had trouble with this song as well(when I started out). But just count it in simple four four. The guitar riff throws you off, but just keep counting four four, you'll get it eventually. It took me a long time though.
Muse's new album is awesome. It's definately different from their previous albums, but it's still good. The bad thing about it is that it's quite short. The album is only 45 minutes with 11 tracks. I can't wait to see them in concert in July.

Oh, that's no problem.
I have a 32 minutes, 12 song CD. The F-Ups. They're fun t' listen to.

Stockholm syndrome can actually be used against the captivator.
It's when you start taking a liking to the person who has taken you hostage. But, if their gay, or your a woman, you can seduce them, and break free.
And we all know there are no women terrorists :(, apart from feminists.
