View Full Version : Spector > Schecter?

I recently played both the Spector Rebop (4 & 5 fretted) as well as the Spector Legend (5 fretted) and they were both incredible basses. I love the look and feel of them, unfortunately the rebop is a little out of my price range (unless i can luck in with a used one) but i'm really liking my odds with the Legend right now. However i've always liked schecter guitars/basses when i've tried them and i really like the look of the stilettos. Does anybody have any experience with either of these products? Any help is appreciated (i'm looking into 5 strings right now, possibly fretless as well).
Thanks.

I'd say they are both very good makes. I own a Shecter Elite 4 and fretless Studio 4, I love both basses.
I also own a spector Q6 which is good although it has balance issues.
I do recommend Schecter quite strongly, great instruments for the price.

What are these ballance issues you speak of? Both of the basses i played were noticeably light and seemingly well balanced (oh the curved body of those rebop's just gets me off though, wow.)

ReBop > Stiletto Studio > Legend > the other stilettos, imo.

I haven't tried the rebop basses but my Spector Q6 has pretty bad neck dive. My schecters feel perfectly balanced.

Most other spectors are pretty well balanced. I know the really light basswood models do have some issues, but the alder/maple bodied ones dont.

It is probably just the fact they didn't lengthen the upper horn to compensate for the fact it is a six string.

schecter > spector imo.... but that's not to say that spector's bad at all. I just like schecters more from personal experience. So basically, they're my 2 fav brands but when it comes down to it, schecter won me over.

They both kickass. The choice between a Spector or a Schector is like the choice between a Jazz and a Stingray in my eyes...a hard choice.

Spectors are much better basses, if you get a real one. I'd say budget model Spectors are comparable to Schecters, but that's about it.

Interesting thoughts, i'll have to try out the Schector again, and look at the availability for models and colors. It's foolish i know but i want my bass to look good, so if the sound is comparable i'll go for the sexiest one.
I'm not too educated in woods, what's the difference between Basswood and Mahogany?

Mahogany is darker, has more defined grain, and has warmer tone characteristics.

I played a euro spector 5 that costs £2999 after putting down a schecter elite 5 and hated it by comparison......btw the schecter was like a quarter of the price

Rebop sounds like a name of a Hanson song.

I would rather have a spector over a schechter on most occassions.

I can't stand Spectors, so my opinion isn't the best in this kind of thread, but I prefer a Schecter. ANY Schecter.
My Shecter = horrible headstock dive. Apparantly this is a big problem with all newer Stilleto models.

I don't really like Schecters looks, but it's the weak tone that puts me off.
I am considering changing my pickups. The EMG just don't have any bass to them.

Speak for yourself  Mine is great - I couldn't ask for more in a budget/mid priced 6er.

My fortune friend owns one of those, absolutely amazing bass if I did'nt splash so much money on a sadowsky I would have attempted to get one of these.

Seriously? I get really bad neck dive... Otherwise I like the feel and sound of it. Just not the balance.

I play a Spector Q5 I bought used (nicked up, neck needed work) and I like it. Good tone.
My only complaint is the same as others have mentioned - balance. Seems neck heavy.

Maybe you have a weird shaped body that compensates for how neck heavy your bass is.

Im pretty certain that wasnt a Euro. Im assuming that was the soundcontrol in London? If so that was an American made one, not a Euro

The only thing I don't like about Spectors is the body shape. I've noticed that both Spectors and Schecters have slight balance problems, but as stated above, it's a horn issue do to my 6-strings.
I love my Studio 6.
Spector = Schecter.
Wow, that seemed like no help whatsoever.

That's one of my biggest pet peeves. Red color and chrome hardware. Yuck. Gold hardware all the way.
That's like black body, black hardware, rosewood fingerboard.

^That is how it SHOULD look, color scheme-wise.

I play a 5, it still has balance issues.
