The past couple days i've started going through the first page of stick control on the kit playing one hand on the ride/cowbell and the other on the snare/snare crosstick, while playing the samba kick & hi-hat foot pattern...
good exercise, i recommend it

My teacher has me do that too. Something Similar.
But I might do what you just did...
Thanks

Very good point. In Advanced Funk Studies, bill latham puts the samba bass drum pattern under the simple hand exersices; so your idea is not i'll conceived.

yeah my teacher had me do that, man your mad good if I recal now your playing for a little under a year. I'm playing 2 years and I can't do that yet. I started working on it again today accually and it looks like I'll be able to make progress. I love the sound of samba too.

The most I can do is keep a simple 2+4 beat with the bass and hi-hat while accenting on the snare. Even then i get confused.

Cool! I would also recommend going through Ted Reed's "Syncopation" in the same way.

yeah i do syncopation but i have a whole slew of more involved and complicated exercises i've been doing lately on that. i posted a really good one a couple of weeks ago, involving doulbe stroke ghost notes, cymbal/kick hits, snare accents, and the hi hat foot on 2 & 4.

Care to post the samba pattern you play with your feet. I am very anxious to try this (along with the insane mind control Josiah posted)

hehe I can play the samba foot pattern under 'mind control'
BTW - the 'samba' pattern I like to use is the kick of course on a1, and a half note hihat w/ foot sizzle on '+'

these also sound really cool if, in addition to the samba beat, you play one hand on a cowbell/ride bell, and the other as a cross stick on the snare
