Wasn't sure whether this should go in Rock & Metal or Punk. Anyways...

So this guy told me of a possible opportunity to play bass for what is, according to him, a "screamo metal" band. Since I don't know screamo at all and don't normally play bass (even though I wish I did, I'm a guitarist), can y'all give me some recommended listening? I want to know what is expected of me, and also how I can incorporate my own style into the music.

Screamo metal isn't a real genre. Your "friend" who has informed you of this genre should recieve a fair punishment of seven strokes of the cane.

Man... South Africans are genre confused. Just give me screamo, aight?

EDIT: And I'm willing to bet funk-hop Afro-rock isn't a real genre either, but somehow my band manages to play it... /shrug

Screamo metal :S well just check out 'Poison the Well'...although some people argue they are metalcore. Check out 'Circle Takes the Square' too - they have elements of grind also.

I sugest you talkt tot he dudes int he band and see if they thinkt hey're "screamo metal." If they say "Yeah, we're inventing a new genre of screamo metal." chances are you're going to sound like Underoath.

As for the thread, I have no idea what that is; I think Afro Rock is a genre.

"screamo" and metal don't go well together.

I don't really care. I just want screamo to listen to.

I don't have the guy's phone number or anything, nor do I know who's in the band and what skill level they're at. I don't know sh1t. All I know is he said "come play bass 4 teh screem0 met0l band lolz", so I'm trying to figure out what he was talking about.

I want screamo to listen to. Disregard the metal thing, y'all, I just want to hear screamo. Generic, boring, uninventive screamo.
