I'm having an audition soon to a musical institute, and it's required to play one jazz song, and I've chosen Autumn Leaves. But I'm not really sure how I should arrange it. In the beginning when it's the melody I'm probably gonna play in a "two-feel" and then when the solos start I'll start walking, but then I have know idea how I should do it. So can somebody help me? :p

i've tapped a 2 feel and played the melody. if you have a 6 it's no sweat. the easiest 2 feel is just I V.

Yeah... I don't know what you're asking, but I have this and I'm going to hope it helps.

I'm going to play it with a band, so I must stick to the bassline only. But that's not really the issue, I just want to know how to arrange it (Melody, solos, ???).

Josh: My teacher said that sheet music was incorrect, but that's the music we were given at basslines. Explain.

sample basslines may work, but many times you're given changes and you have to improv. and i've seen this song in 2 diffrent keys

I wanna know how to arrange the song, like where to put all the parts. For example, the song consists of an A and B part, and right now I'm planning on first playing through the AB parts in a two feel, then solos on AB where I play walking but then I have no idea what should come. I'm not so familiar with jazz so I was just thinking if there are some common pattern used or something.

Yeah I know, I'm a bad explainer. :p

Here is a version of Autumn Leaves as played by solo bassist Mike Dimin. Even though he mainly plays the melody and chords, it could serve as a bit of inspiration, me thinks. Notation/tabs are beyond the links at the very bottom of the page.

On a separate note, go Lordi! :p

Its a lead sheet in bass clef. This is a transcription of the bassline from a specific recording. Big difference.

Anyone heard Wynton Marsalis' version of this? I love it :)

We played this song in Sight Reading too, its a great song - can't really help with the arranging, but I guess listening to Wynton's version may help?

The Miles Davis version is in a different key than most other versions, but it's one of the most popular version.

How strange..

It's in G minor, which is played just as much as the E minor version.

After listening, there are are one or two snafus in the transcription, but other than a couple notes, its all right.
