Well, as of recently I've been listening to some of Bootsy's music again, (imparticular: In funk we trust) and have fallen in love with that phat tone he gets on his low notes and his snappy high's.

Anyway, I would like to know, how could i best replicate his tone without buying his guitar (or one of the remakes of his guitar)?
What kind of replacement pickups can I buy and which strings should they be bundled with to get a similar tone to his?

bootsy loved to cram as much pickups on his bass as possible. I think one of his basses had five jazz bass pickups.

i think its probibly imposible to replicate bootsys tone without his entire setup and actualy being him to be quite honest. his bass had 5 pickups, he used a **** load of effects and just general yea, its hard.

Closest thing is probably a jazz with DRs (they help a ton), and maybe some other pickups (Model J's?) to beefen up the tone a lot.

5 pickups?!? holy crap!! The bass I've seen him holding was star shaped, white with gold hardware, and it only had 2 Jazz style pickups :( Oh well, I guess it was still worth asking...

Edit2: now that i look at it, those pickups have the little text on them like seymour duncan basslines, no?

He also has a 5-pickup version of it, as one with 4 J and one P (?), two P and two J, etc.
