is the aerodyne jazz bass overrated? i have played, and have my mind set on a fender deluxe p bass. but all the reviews for the aerodyne talk it up like it's the best thing sence birth control. is there something i would get from the aerodyne that i wouldn't get from the deluxe p. i want to play it, but my local music store blows! there best bass is the MM rip off. thanks!

ive got one, its an awsome bass, no doubts about it, but a lot of what your paying for is the looks, for me thats fine, its a beauty, and it turns heads anywhere i play.
also, although i say your paying a lot for looks, there are a huge variety of tones you can get out of it, and it plays rock, jazz, funk and punk all pretty well, so really, there are no complaints.
one thing though, i play my bass around waist height, if you play it any higher then you will kill your wrists, as there are no contours to the body, however this isnt really a problem, if you play it far down enough.

well, the deluxe active p has both the p & j pick ups. are the pick ups in the aerodyne better?
i do play arownd the waist, w/o picks. i'm in a punk band.
i hear it is lighter? (the aerodyne)
and yes, it is a good looking bass!
thanks!

the aerodyne feels lighter because the body is made of basswood. some people love basswood because it's so light (a la musicman bongo) but some people here completely knock it because it dents easily. But you know what? a bass is going to dent no matter what if you don't take good care of it. I like the aerodyne tone, but for punk i would go for the delux. I prefer the electronics on the deluxe more than the aerodyne. The aerodyne just has pickup blend volume and tone, while the deluxe has pickup blend, volume, tone, and bass+treble cut/boost if i'm not mistaken. I would deffinately try out both, you might like the aerodyne more. I'm in no way knocking the aerodyne because it is a great bass, but as similar as these basses may seem, they are two completely different beasts.
I think the deluxe has more growl, which IMO would be better for punk, but check them out. You're in for a tough decision my friend.

I've never liked the Aerodyne.
That P pickup lacks boom, the J is alright, but the price is too much. I don't like the looks.

thanks!
i'm having a hard time finding one to play. but i think you are right about the tone.
does anyone no anything about the pickgard on the deluxe. i herd it is hard to change out because it is metal. (problems with grounding or something.)
