I've been shopping around for a new shell pack lately and have heard alot of good things about the Mapex Saturns, i haven't gotten to play then yet so i was just wondering how they sound and if anyone here has then and could comment on them and post pictures. Also does the Saturn series make bass drums without the tom mounts on them? I like to put my ride where the right mounted tom goes, thus i like having my two toms a little to the left of my bass drum. And is there any other kits around this same price range you guys would recommend in maple and probably fusion sizes that i should take a look at?

uhh....the saturn is an incredible kit for the price, I've played on one and the sound was awesome. You can get a 4 piece saturn, you know that right? Hell, you can get it in virgin and a bunch of different tom sizes.
other kits:Starclassic Maple, Sonor 3005, new PDP kits
none of these match up to the saturn IMO, but they're all pure maple and in the same price range...sorta.
yeah the saturn bass drum has the tom holder on it but it isnt drilled into the drum...its put through both sides of the top lugs. so you can remove it. thats awesome.

I guess all you need to know is that the stardust finishes are staggering, even moreso in person, and all the other finishes are awesome to an extent.

i have Saturn, they are awesome, especially for the price. i havent had any problems with them, the tom holders are removable like said above. They sound fantastic, i would definetly go for it.
