hey dudes, i just bought http://www.guitarx.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=44 for $275
a cheap by so i thought why not give it go? i figured id by it, then buy some mad pick-ups for it. so where to starT?
i have no idea where to look, or what to get? any ideas? cheers

It really depends on what you are looking to improve upon tonally.
What kind of sound do you want the instrument to have?

a clean, sexy tone lol.
somewhere between cliff/rex/jason.

Cliff was a P-bass player pre-Metallica and in the beginning of Metallica. Then Aria bass and Rickenbacker basses, as well as an Alembic which was stolen.
Rex played Fenders and Charvel in the beginning the latter half of his career with Pantera and then with Down he used Spectors.
Jason played Sadowskys and Alembics.
I am guessing either EMGs (Rex) or mix and matching Ps and Js from other basses.
EMGs would probably work out best in your situation, especially if you have a cavity to house a preamp.

get an emg pj. that's what jason used. both rex and cliff used humbuckers.
