Hey guys, I'm usually a guitarist, but I have had a drum pad and I decided to try and learn drums starting sometime in june. So I looked for some quick online lessons and I learned the "matched" grip and how to play using it. I'm definately going to take lessons soon because drumming is really fun. Now here's a recording I made of me messing around on a drum pad. I tried to keep a steady beat, but I think I totally ****ed up, and I tried to do a roll... er yea just check it out and tell me what you think. Oh, and you have to turn it up to hear it well.

Yea its hard to hear because the mic I was using was on my headset so its made for recording at short distances. I guess just turn all the volume controls up that you can.

you are falling pray to the ultimate sound killer.
Everyone new to drums always buzzes... perhaps cause it's easier to just let the sticks fall. Let the stick rebound... feel the beautiful force take you away to a magical land of reboundacity...
sorry, i made my point.
keep at it.:chug:

I'm not quite sure what you're saying... What exactly do I do to make the sticks rebound?
Hit them against the head durr.
But you just apply a bit more pressure (not tensing up your hand) after you hit the head, and it rebounds. From what I heard from the recording, you should already know that.

Ellx I don't really understand what you're trying to say. The stick naturally rebounds from the head just like a tennis ball naturally bounces back up when it's thrown down. You just need to adjust your hands if need be to allow that to happen.
Bah, I know that, but the way he asked it made it seem like he wanted to know how to do a closed roll*, because anybody who has ever held sticks and hit a drum pad knows that it naturally rebounds.
* Quoted from stick control:
It has several rebounds to each stick movement, instead of just one, this being produced by a slight additional pressure, applied to the sticks as the roll is executed.

^^^I was talkinga about rebound. As in every regular stroke... not a closed roll.
Threadstarter: Practice holding the stick and hitting the pad. When it hits the pad, let it rebound almost all the way up. Do it slowly with one hand for a while, then switch to the other. This will make it start to feel more comfortable.
