I'm looking into this..

Schecter Stiletto Elite-5
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/SchecterStilettoElite5Bass?sku=513052

and alot of music stores dont necissarily have the same bass in stock but do have schecters. and I was wondering in general to stilletos have the same sound? Would playing a 4 string stilleto and/or a different 5 in the store give me a good enough idea about that particular model? I hate buying things with out trying them.

also, after often looking at craigslist and ebay for peavey heads I see the mark series come up alot for super cheap and they don't seem that bad. is there any reason why alot of people are selling theirs? I've heard peavey to last lifetimes

Playing a different kind of Stilleto (a Custom, Studio, or whatever) will give you an idea of the feel of the bass, not really of the tone. If you want a feel of the tone, listen to soundclips.

Playing a Peavey will not help you gauge the feel of a Schecter, obviously.

The marks are excellent heads, I got a complete setup (Mark VI and accompanying 2x15) for no money at all. (Literally, it was my friend's brothers) You can't go wrong with 'em, and they'll take quite the beating before they finally die.

ahhh, the elite 5....i'd have to say, If i decided to get another bass instead of a new rig/add a fretless to the collection, it'll be the elite 5...i played it when i was in london..and my god, such amazing feel and tone...the string spacing is perfect for anything, and it's so damn versatile...and it comes with really nice strings

I hate Elixers. Am I the only one?

my stilletto elite 4 came with elixers. they felt nice, but i hated the tone. about a year ago i swapped them out for some DR highbeams and i fell in love with that bass again.

I use a Markbass IV top and I love it :smoke: They just go for a low price because they are:
- underrated
- older heads (so people think: hmm I need something new, lets sell my Peavey)
